The 'K's used in displays are used to refer to a particular resolution.

By definition 2k is 2048x1080p which is a cinema resolution (movies & films).

4k is 4096x2160p, is again, a cinema resolution which is hardly seen by consumers.

However, consumers tend to use 'xK' to refer to common display resolutions, as the horizontal pixels almost match the number. 1920 (horizontal) is miscalled 2k, 3840 is miscalled 4k (is UHD actually).

2.5k is used for 2560x1440p.
