Basically Windows is reporting that ~50% (4/8GB) of RAM is being used, even when "idle" (chrome running with a few tabs, steam, battle.net open, etc)

Here is my tasklist dump (tasklist > tasklist.txt) in http://pastebin.com/TB5uibjc

Here are screenshots of my task manager:

 BdxCUv4.jpg PC0Rxme.jpg

It doesn't add up, I don't understand why my RAM isn't being used. This is leading to major issues, like my RAM saying it's maxing out and force closing games, along with my graphics card's memory chips overheating yet my core reports 72c, also my CPU doesn't add up :c my PC is junk.

It would be really handy dandy if someone could find out how to fix this or tell me what's wrong, Windows memory debugger didn't find anything wrong and it was fine before. It's now crashing even after playing a bit of Garry's Mod, let alone GTA V (which used to run fine, now closing all programs because of lack of memory, causing my screen to go black permanently until restart in some cases)

I can put linux on my X drive if you need reports of the memory from that to troubleshoot.

I used to have a 2GB RAMdisk like a year ago, but I have reinstalled Windows many times since, and even 3 days ago this Windows install is, that can't be the problem right?

Thanks.

what do you mean it doesnt add up

task manager shows you your user resources, you cant just add them up and get the total

system uses ram and CPU too

But task manager is showing >500MB of RAM used total.. So you're saying my system is using 3.5GB of RAM? How do I make the bugger use less?

i think you mean to use < instead of >

and no, even just looking at that screenshot you posted i can add up over 500MB

so either youre looking at the wrong thing or you dont know how to do math...

system usually uses a few GBs, thats normal

im guessing yours is using 2-3

other than restarting and turning off startup processes there isnt much you can do

just double check all your windows updates are installed

I meant less than, I didn't really bother to add up but it certainly isn't using 4GB.

How come my system has never used 2-3GB before? Especially a (pretty much) fresh Windows install, that isn't a bit strange to you? I don't remember when it started, but back when I first got this PC I swear it never used over 500MB idle.

idk...

all my systems use 1-3GB at idle

sometimes if windows is installing updates it uses a lot of ram and you need to restart to clear it (after installing the updates of course)

Maybe so, but this has been happening for a few months at least and I restart my PC pretty much 1x per day (when I go to sleep)

then check your startup programs/tasks and try disabling stuff
