Looking for good external hard drive

My mom has a mac and is running out of space. The mac has a 1TB of local storage and another TB from an external hard drive. I want a drive that will last a long time and is reliable. We are planning to dump the contents of the 1TB external drive to the new one. Preferably has 2-3TB of space. It doesn't need to be portable. I've been looking at a 3tb MyBook. Budget is around $125. Any suggestions?

I have a seagate goflex home nas drive and have never had any issues with it.  You can set it for auto backups and access it off any computer on your network.  I works on pc and mac.

I don't have any experience with WD's external drives, but I've heard good things about them. However, I have a couple of their internal drives and they've been performing pretty well so far so I think the 3TB MyBook would be a good choice.

I've used a 2TB Seagate Backup Plus for over a year and had zero degradation in speed, read or write. Even dropped it on hardwood floor once, not even a scratch.

Western Digital has a lot of pretty reliable external drives. Check them out.

WD My Passport Ultra. I have the 3TB model and I freaking love it.

Never had an issue with a WD external. They're great.
