Windows Update broke my OS (I'm assuming)

DarkEnergy

Last night I told the computer to go into sleep mode. The second it did, it woke right back up. I assumed it had to be a Windows Update because Windows Update is screwy. Sure, enough when I told it to shut down it said "getting windows ready", "preparing windows"  or something like that. I walked away to do something and when I came back the computer was off. I went to bed for the night. This morning I turned on the computer and while windows was starting up I got a BSOD with "system thread exception not handled". It restarts and same thing. "Attempting automatic repair" brings up a BSOD as well. Now, I have 2 recovery flash drives. One made from that computer and another made from an older windows 10 machine. The recovery flash drive made with the problematic computer gives a BSOD. The one made with the older computer works so I'm using that.

I try the automatic repair but after a reboot nothing changed. I tried "/sfc scannow" but it said it still has a pending operation. ? Next, I chose the recover from drive option (I have a backup on a second hard drive)

Next, I try image recovery. I'm guessing this is because the recovery flash drive was made on the old computer with an old mobo.

I've tried doing a chkdisk but I can't seem to get into the "Windows" folder on my hard drive. I got into "C" perfectly fine. Ubuntu can boot up fine on a flash drive and BIOS shows all my systems specs fine so it shouldn't be a hardware issue. Am I screwed and my only other option is to wipe and reinstall?
