Hi !

i am familiar with cpu's so don't need any tech answers but need advice on buying new second hand stuff.

I saw this i7 3820 which isn't as powerful as a i5 4690k but is available at 125 euro so is this a good deal or is it kinda shit?

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

It's the i7 3820 with NO K so I don't think so.

well ofcourse its an ideal chip , but id rather go with an i7 2600k or something like that , x79 is an extreme board , meant for heavy use , but it really depends on the games you play

for example like simulations like assetto corsa or project cars or anything that has to calculate and simulate with loads of assetts will be cpu hungry

but this chip is a beast , i dont see any bottlenecks you could have so yes id go for it ! :D

Sounds good to me especially since the Euro isn't worth crap right now just like the Canadian dollar.

well its not to bad to be honest its just the VAT which you need to pay for a product which is 21% so any product which you buy in the US add 21% to it thats how much it costs here :/ and since 1 dollar is worth 0.92 euro euro is better but with the vat not :/

What I am seeing is a chip for the 2011 socket though, are we talking about the same thing? Do you already have a board or no?

If youre going to look further into the 3820, Id suggest going to wherever it is and doing some tests with it to see if its performing correctly, if it is, then go for it. I hope whoever youre buying it from has a motherboard to go with it as well because idk about your area, but where Im from, finding X79 motherboards for a good price is impossible.

4690K // 212 EVO // Z97-PRO // Vengeance 16GB // GTX 770 GTX 970 // MX100 128GB // Toshiba 1TB // Air 540 // HX650

Logitech G502 RGB // Corsair K65 RGB (MX Red)

Be sure you can find a good deal on a 2011 motherboard before you dish out the money on the cpu. 2011 socket has a handful of unlocked 8 core Xeons as well but they are still floating around $800 used.

Anything by Asus or Gigabyte is usually top notch. What price did you find it for? Looking at resale I am seeing $300-500.... insane. If you are going to be spending $600ish for a cpu and motherboard you would be better suited going with a X99 board for around $200 and a 5820k for whatever they are going for... usually around $380-90 maybe cheaper if they are on sale. That would put you on a better platform for the same price and brand new. Also you have more upgrade paths in the future, say... the 10 core 6960X coming out.
