building my first pc

greyb3ard

If it's just gaming.. I would maybe sacrifice the SSD for now for a more powerful graphics card.  The 950 is respectable, but I think you would have a better time with a r9 380 or a gtx 960.

Thats my opinion anyway :)

my work in progress

i5 6600k  //  16gb g.skill ddr4 3000  //  evga gtx 980

What do you think about going with 6600K and DDR4? From what I know these two CPUs are pretty much the same when it comes to performance, price and power consumption but IMHO going with 1151 seems logical as it is a newer tech and it would give you better upgrade options in the future.

Will most likely bottleneck but since you do 1080p gaming I don't think it's going to be much of a hassle unless you play CPU heavy gaming

Or you can look into an i5 4460 + cheap B85 mobo

If your PC is mainly for gaming than i will go with this. Reducing the price of CPU will allow you to insert better GPU. I personally like i5 for gaming over Fx 8 core, but sometime we have to look at our budget. Price of the case is not included in the list of your PC part picker but it is around $120 CAD in NCIX. So technically i am within your budget range because price of the case is included in my PC part picker list. I made this build because i think you are interested in Overclocking. So you can say it is an OC build. If you want you can change R9 390 with GTX 970, not a big difference. But R9 390 is slightly better ,

PC theme : Black/Red.

If you are not interested in OC than, i will go with this, it is an i5 6500 build:
