The board only lists 4mb and 6mb C2Qs as being supported.

I saw .. but the chipset Q45 is capable

the problem would be if lenovo engineered the mobo properly

First gen FX maybe but Piledriver is trickier also both FXs can also be OCed...

The intel processor is still faster clock for clock, so even with OC, the FX processors (yes, even piledriver, since that has the same clock for clock like the phenom II - well close anyway) will be either under-performing, or on par with the 10 year old processor.

FSB is quad pumped.

 

But given that Q45 isn't rated for 1600FSB you're not going to find a QX9770 on the support list for some business/oem board. no matter how lenovo engineer it. is what im getting at.

again .. this is why I said theoretically 

 

that mobo should have absolutely no problems supporting C2Q with 12MB of L2 cache Yorkfields (Q9650) - and yet it limits itself to 6MB ?!

I didn't have any luck pushing over 360fsb (1440 pumped) myself on q45

I can't find a QX9770 cheap, but my X38 mobo has support for it out of the box

That's because it's an enthusiast chipset and not a business one

 

I got 630fsb (2520) with minimal tweaking on the rampage extreme (x48).
