Hello all, new to the Forums but a long time fan of the videos on the channel. On an impulse buy I recently purchased a Dell PowerEdge R710 Server used at a flea market. I've attached a CPUZ Dump for the specs. I've got Server 2012 R2 running, but I'm at a loss for what to do next. I could use it for a Minecraft server perhaps? But that seems overkill. I'd like to setup a NAS maybe, but I want to make sure I have the right groundwork laid before starting to set anything up. Ideally I'd like to do something web based, (Plex? Media Server?) things that in general would be useful for my friends and I.

Thanks

Large non-redundant storage for my media hoard.  (Going to address that lack of parity/redundancy eventually)

Redundant storage for my film projects.

MySQL for my Kodi machines.

I'm an app developer for my school, we write webapps mainly and since I'm a big fan of using ASP.net I have a SQL Server on this server which is an old iMac which runs Windows Server 2008 R2.

I also use it for training for my MCSE.   I think if I could ever have another server, I would run CentOS on it.  This is because I think for web servers it's important to use Apache, and Apache kind of sucks on Windows.

Apache is great on Linux and Unix, however on Windows I think IIS takes the crown.

My home server has a hypervisor, with a few virtualised systems. I have:

2 x Windows Server 2016 Domain Controllers

Windows Server 2012 R2 server hosting some public Rust game servers and a Minecraft server.

Windows Server 2012 R2 server running a Plex Server and various other Windows server tools.

A pfSense Firewall/Proxy Cache

Ubuntu Server 15.10 Seedbox running ruTorrent with autodl-irssi mounted to my NAS share

CentOS 7 box with various network apps and a Lighttpd webserver I use for a site for my game servers.

I then have a RaspberryPi with Raspbian that is an SSH jumphost into the Linux servers and acts as an SSH tunnel for RDP to the Windows Servers
