What makes it better, (sorry I am pretty new to building and chose amd, I feel pretty dumb)

Intel has better single core performance and hyperthreadin and AMD isnt good with hyperthreading so instead of high clock they throw in extra cores

For the average gamer, the Intel with 4 cores. Because the IPC per core from Intel is far higher than that of AMD. Like, waaaaaaay higher. We're at the point where for gaming applications, a Core i3 is pulling ahead of an FX9590, because the 9590 is based on an architecture from nearly 5 years ago. Also, Intel processors don't consume nearly as much power for the performance that you get.

Core count and clockspeed are no longer determining factors in what CPU is the best unless you're comparing chips of the exact same architecture.

Get an i3 or an i5. Or wait for Zen. But you may be waiting a while.

choosing amd isnt always dumb its all dependent on cost, i went amd because of cost for my cpu and mobo was cheaper than intel so it worked out for me

For gaming the Intel, considering its 3-4gen+ and around the same price range as the AMD chip, the Intel will rape the AMD chip in its bumhole.

For rendering the AMD will tear the Intel chip a new asshole.

Then wait for Zen. Trust me, the current FX lineup is dead, even by AMD's own admission. Don't invest in a platform that you will end up having to ditch altogether if you want upgrades. It's not worth it. Even if prices in the UK really are that much higher.

the intel will win until your program can use 5 threads or more, thats when FX 8-cores start to show their value.

that said, the difference is pretty slim in the large scheme of things.

basicly:

FX will be better at numbercrunching

intell will not be a space heater

EDIT: numlock was a derp, thanks dell! :/

its just the way its designed, intel CPUs have higher core performance

and core performance is almost always more important than an extra 4 cores

If you have a 8350, you still have a good processor mind you, it will last you for quite some time, especially if games finally getting the hang of multi-core processors.
