Actually hearing really good things about the XFX. I'd be tempted to put it over the Sapphire.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

From what I know, the biggest draw for XFX against Sapphire is their customer support. Their cards tend to be more consistent in the silicon lottery and coolers, too.

Those are my observations as well. The Sapphires are ether gimped like mine was, or Marvel makes it into a movie.

Agreed. My brother has a Sapphire Dual-X HD 7850 and we probably got a good one, because that card doesn't even get to 50C in GTA V.

I haven't heard anything bad on the NVIDIA side, only ever on the AMD side. What specifically is it that's so bad on the NVIDIA side?

it's not that bad but the Asus Strix GTX 980ti that i got personally i found is running somewhat hot (will reach 75c at stock in games and i can push it to 80c with an overclock) these temps i'm talking about are with 55% fanspeed and the card get significantly loud at anything more than 55%...60% is already a no go unless you really don't mind noisy computers...the fans are cheap IMHO and the fact that there are 3 small fans instead of 2 bigger one such as the MSI and EVGA card makes this solution quite a bit noisier and it also feel cheaper. I'm used to MSI's twinfrozr GPU which are honestly head and shoulder above the Asus models which generally use cheap ass fans with poor bearing quality and i also suspect they butchered (or forgot) the thermal interface material application (might explain why my card run hot like that...)

there you go :)

At first i thought it was about ''what is bad about nvidia cards...to which i would have answered SLI is shit and also they are a bit pricey.

But yeah, Asus is not a good choice at least when it comes to my card...i got a potent piece of silicon on it though and it clock to 1440mhz with absolutely no effort or voltage bumps or whatever...also the memory is nice on my card it's hynix memory chips but mine do 8200mhz also with no effort or over voltage ...so quite impressive...also the card looks (IMHO) dead gorgeous i love everything about it the leds the backplate with the red square in the middle the lights on the power connectors which are pretty neat (red when not fully inserted...nice touch there Asus) and it's big and it looks beautiful...but it's also hot and loud unfortunately.

This was my in a nut shell review for the Asus Strix GTX 980ti feel free to link this post to anyone who might be interested in reading it :)

I would recommend the EVGA GTX 980ti FTW or Classified or MSI 980ti Gaming 6G instead.

From personal experience I can also recommend the Gigabyte G1 Gaming and Zotac AMP! Extreme.

those are also triple fan design...smaller fans = more fans = faster RPM = higher pitch = more noticeable noise = noisier cards.

i would bet that the MSI twinfrozr card will be quite a bit quieter than those under load and will achieve similar temps...probably not if you run the gigabyte fans at 100% that thing move a lot of heat (and so does the strix BTW...i can get this card to run at 65c if i max out the fans but then it's in ''air dryer loud'' territory.

That's what my G1 Gaming is like at around 80% (which it was reaching due to the heat until I removed the shite that is called Arctic Silver 5 and went for Chemtools R001), and at 100%, its louder than some of the hairdryers I've seen in use. Still can never recommend a G1 Gaming to anyone, especially with unnecessarily having half the vRAM on the back with no cooling at all.

I had that MB as well when I got a Z170 was DOA after running for 30 minutes. It started smoking from the vram. Sent it back for a refund and got the Asrock OC worked well.

As in GTX 970 G1 Gaming-not touching a Gigabyte motherboard after my first socket 370 motherboard went up in flames.

MSI also puts VRAM chips on the back of 970's. They don't on 980's for whatever reason. But VRAM doesn't get overly hot unlike VRM's.

Remember, the vRAM chips reaching different temperatures can cause instabilities, and either way, both cards would have the space for the chips to fit on the front, and MSI has a quieter cooler, so I'll still recommend MSI cards over Gigabyte's.

Yeah I just found it odd that MSI puts 4 chips of vRAM on the bare 970 PCB but puts all the vRAM under the cooler on the 980.

Same here, its really strange since both die are identical, and therefore the PCB should have the same configuration.
