Best dual chip GPU?

Any options on a dual chip GPU? Budget is $400

If you can find a 295x2 for $400 go for it Otherwise you are looking at a 690 which isn't worth it over a 295x5

most recent card that comes ot mind is the 760 mars, but you would be better off with sli 960s

Best is probably R9 295X2, 690 or a Titan Z.. But just why..

He just told you some dual-GPU cards. Two of 'em. For $400 you're better off buying a new GPU, since the best dual-GPU card is the R9 295x2, which is two beefed up R9 290 chips on a single PCB, cooled by an AiO cooler. Blazing fast card. They're hard to find, and usually expensive. There's a new dual-GPU card out, the R9 390x2 DEVIL from Powercolor. It's $600 retail, but it's cooled by air, and not as powerful as the 295x2. There's older cards like the Radeon HD 7990 and the GTX 690, but neither are really worth it today.

So far the most up to date dual GPU cards are the 295x2 and the Titan Z but those are well over a thousand dollars each. During Scrapyard Wars, Austin Evans got a 6990, a much older dual GPU card for 180 bucks on Craigslist. That  could be valid option for you if you wouldn't mind stepping down a couple generations.

May I ask for more detailed opinion why you don't recommend dual GPUs?

I'm not trolling or being sarcastic, I just don't know anything about dual GPUs and how they work, pros and cons etc.

Its exactly the same as SLI or Crossfire, which I also do not recommend
SLI/.CF Scaling, Lack of support, extra heat etc

Dual cards are terrible for cooling and run very hot and loud

 

You are better off spending the money on the fastest single GPU card available, 

I would only SLI a 980ti since I cannot get a single better card

oh well if it's same as SLI and crossfire then I understand that isn't best solution

SLI and crossfire aren't optimised as they should be as far as I can tell from reading forums  guess same goes for those dual GPU cards.

yeah if anything its worse, at least SLI cards are spread apart, a dual chip card has BOTH GPUs on the same card sharing the cooling

its a good idea in theory, 2 Gpus in a single PCIe lane, but yeah

AMD 7990 can still kick butt. I run two 7950 crossfire cant complain.
