just wondering what yours thoughts are on amd and nvidia

there's two specific cards im currently looking at and they are the amd 7790 with 1gb gddr5  and  the gtx 650 ti also with 1gb gddr5..
what are your thoughts and opinions on these two cards and why would you pick one over the other? (note: i would get something like a gtx 760 but im not rich so budget it is)

The 7790 is better especially when oc'ed. I'd recommend bumping up to a 7850 if possible though.

What's your budget?

From the tests Slick has done on the LTT channel it seems that the AMD cards definitely offer a better price to performance ratio so I would go with the 7790

i should have mentions that better, 250 NZD so about 200 usd.. prices over here are about 10-20% higher ontop of that though as well, a 7790 on sale is about $209

What do you want price performance features.

tbh i just want to run games on average to high settings, im not a hard out gamer, i do a lil bit of photo shopping as well but i want something thatll last more then 6 months..

EDIT - also is there any significant difference between cuda cores and shading units? as far as i can tell they are technically the same thing just named differently?

I have a 7970 DCUII Top Ed. And it has a locked voltage. Can only squeeze 1125Mhz out of it. Its not AMD but Asus' fault.

the 7950 is at 479 atm :/ bit outta my price range unfortunately

EDIT- if i was to spend any more on a gpu itd probably be from the 7900 series or the gtx 660+ series to get my moneys worth,

rather then an extra hundred for the 7800(300-400) series from the 7700(190-250ish) series

You could wait for newer AMD cards release and buy used 7950 when people who will be upgrading will be selling older ones.

They both have their pros and cons. All the cards I owned before my 7870 were Nvidia cards, but I have been very happy with my 7870. I'd go with the 7790 because of the price and performance of the card, although 650ti isn't a bad card. Whatever card you get, have fun gaming!

The 7770 is better than the 550ti, therefore the 7790 is a much better choice.

Go Google Nvidia Greenlight. I have 2x GTX 680s and I hate them to the core.
