Posted February 22, 2016 This question is in regards to console only releases of this and the past generation, ones that the gamedev's haven't released on PC. Maybe one day emulators or some kind of loaders will be available for the most recent generations Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/552796-console-games-on-pc/ Share on other sites
 Posted February 22, 2016 Vote for turnip! Jk, obviously playing Console only games on PC is better, expanding your library with some awesome titles such as Skate 3 or Super Mario Galaxy would be awesome Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/552796-console-games-on-pc/#findComment-7290265 Share on other sites
 Posted February 22, 2016 well, the latest generation of consoles are basicly PCs with a proprietary OS on them, and in a cool package. ("cool" not in the literal sense...) the problem with emulating is that your computer usually needs to be an order of magnitude faster than the console its emulating, and on top of that someone needs to sing a ton of time in actually engineering the damn emulator. an example: the wii is about the most high end we can emulate right now in a decent manner, together with the PS2. their specs are as follows: wii: - IBM powerpc single core, 729MHz - ati "hollywood" graphics chip (90nm, 243MHz) - 88MB ram, 3MB texture memory and frame buffer which takes a quite decent pc to emulate PS2: - sony's own "emotion engine" RISC processor thats a proprietary piece of voodoo. - EDIT oh, and a whopping 32MB of ram. Maybe one day emulators or some kind of loaders will be available for the most recent generations I would prefer for real ports to be made to pc, enhanced with PC features I would settle for an emulator Will it be possible? probably not (at least not for a long time) honestly, if I want to play the exclusives I will just buy the console Do i believe exclusives should exist? as a customer/consumer, no, as a business I understand why Desktop - Corsair 300r i7 4770k H100i MSI 780ti 16GB Vengeance Pro 2400mhz Crucial MX100 512gb Samsung Evo 250gb 2 TB WD Green, AOC Q2770PQU 1440p 27" monitor Laptop Clevo W110er - 11.6" 768p, i5 3230m, 650m GT 2gb, OCZ vertex 4 256gb, 4gb ram, Server: Fractal Define Mini, MSI Z78-G43, Intel G3220, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 4x 3tb WD Reds in Raid 10, Phone Oppo Reno 10x 256gb , Camera Sony A7iii Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/552796-console-games-on-pc/#findComment-7290307 Share on other sites
 Posted February 22, 2016 as an purchaser of almost every game system since the atari 2600 including the old pong system back in the 80's even a 3DO and the philips CD-i(what was i thinking?), i hope that the game developers start releasing games for the PC the same time as consoles, but as we all know certain games drive hardware sales, so i guess i will still have that internal struggle to decide to get a ps4(i have 2 xb1's) just to play uncharted. btw i also own a full set of hyperspin which gets me my fix on old console games, without having to hook the old systems up if i post a link to amazon try to use the LTT affiliate code to help the channel http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=linustechtips-20 Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/552796-console-games-on-pc/#findComment-7290317 Share on other sites
 Posted February 22, 2016 I'd rather have a decent pc port, but if I have no choice an emulator is better than nothing - I'd rather use that than pay for a dedicated box in this case, assuming it works just as well or better. 25 minutes ago, ShadowCaptain said: Will it be possible? probably not (at least not for a long time) honestly, if I want to play the exclusives I will just buy the console Technically it should be possible to make some sort of compatibility layer as opposed to a straight up emulator, since the consoles use x86 - something like wine is conceivable. Of course without the manufacturer's cooperation that becomes a lot harder. POSSIBLY, its x86 but I am not sure if any of the hardware is proprietary, such as the PS4 using DDR5 shared ram etc - it might take a bit more work ( I have no idea) Desktop - Corsair 300r i7 4770k H100i MSI 780ti 16GB Vengeance Pro 2400mhz Crucial MX100 512gb Samsung Evo 250gb 2 TB WD Green, AOC Q2770PQU 1440p 27" monitor Laptop Clevo W110er - 11.6" 768p, i5 3230m, 650m GT 2gb, OCZ vertex 4 256gb, 4gb ram, Server: Fractal Define Mini, MSI Z78-G43, Intel G3220, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 4x 3tb WD Reds in Raid 10, Phone Oppo Reno 10x 256gb , Camera Sony A7iii Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/552796-console-games-on-pc/#findComment-7290391 Share on other sites
 Of course I'm talking very generally, I wouldn't have a clue on how to actually do that. Posted February 22, 2016 When Devs port, they should do it right. Not pathetic examples like DarkSouls. Otherwise Consoles should keep their Crap.
