21:9 Aspect Ratio - How quick can I get used to the ratio?

Hello

 

How quick is it for someone like me to get used to the 21:9 aspect ratio, coming from the standard 16:9 aspect ratio? I ask this because now I have four different options for monitors from two different companies and brands.

 

Asus ROG Swift

• ROG Swift PG27AQ (4K 16:9)
• ROG Swift PG348Q (1440p 21:9)

Acer Predator

• Predator XB271HK (4K 16:9)
• Predator X34 (1440p 21:9)

I chose these two companies because a) I have had a good experience with Asus, and b) I have heard good things about Acer, and even my uncle has an Acer monitor (albeit a cheapo one). Which company between the two offers the better services in the event that you need to troubleshoot something or warranty/RMA something?

 

I would love to get a 5120x2160 (4K 21:9) monitor, but those don't even exist yet. So which company should I give more consideration into.

I have a 21:9 panel, coming from a 16:9 panel.

It's a quick adjustment, because it's almost like having two monitors next to each other with no bezel.

Games look great with a few tweaks (I use the flawless widescreen app), and productivity is great, as windows lets you run two windows next to each other seamlessly.

Both suck a lot of ass when it comes to customer service, fyi

21:9 is a lot like doing dual monitors except that you don't have a bezel in the middle. If you're fine with that, not hard to get used to.

With Asus, like I've said, I've had a good time with the customer service department when I had to troubleshoot the laptop (it's the ROG G75VW-DS73-3D) when the screen wouldn't turn on when I fired it up. The person I was hooked up to via Live Chat was really nice and helpful.

 

And yeah I have seen 21:9 monitors at my local Fry's Electronics before, plus an AIO one as well, and they're a little weird for me at first. But if I had one and have been using it for a while, I can imagine getting used to it.

Then I'd probably go for Asus. I've heard Acer's customer support is almost unanimously abhorrent. Asus' customer support tends to be good (like with you) or pretty bad.

Yeah I even considered BenQ, however they don't have neither a G-Sync option, nor a 21:9 aspect ratio for 4K and 1440p respectively. So they were off of the list unfortunately.

 

Also when I checked PCPartPicker for manufacturers and number of G-Sync monitors, I have found the following:

• Acer: 12 monitors
• AOC: 1 monitor
• Asus: 4 monitors
• BenQ: 1 monitor
• Dell: 1 monitor
• Phillips: 2 monitors

So that adds up to 21 monitors with G-Sync. That's a small number of monitors. And the reason why I am going with a G-Sync monitor is because I am going with an Nvidia desktop GPU and they support G-Sync, which is something I want to use.

 

Also it'd be totally awesome for me to get the LG 31MU97C-B, but I also game as well and that monitor is not fast enough for the GTG response time, as per Linus's review of the 31MU97 which he measured the GTG response time as high as ~27 ms, so more than a frame.

Getting used to 21:9 is rather quick. I got mine 21:9 week ago and I am playing 100% comfortable for 3-4 days right now. You just need 2-3 days to get use to it, find optimal sitting distance from monitor, figure out brightness and color settings and etc. Its not much different than just going for bigger standard screen, its just normal process of getting used to new monitor.

Had the X34 21x9 for two days. I'm going to miss that productivity when i put my surround back up this evening. Adaptation was done in day one for me.

My X34 paired with a Gigabyte Extreme GTX980ti was 'Instantly Awesome' when i turned it on.
