Switched the motherboard so he can overclock and switched the 970 for a 390 as it is a better value card along with a different power supply.

Think about going to sklylake:  

 

I7-6700 $319 at microcenter.

 

H110 motherboards are 50-75 on amazon.

 

Ddr4 not much more expensive than ddr3.
