Im finding it really hard to find some for sale that aren't stupidly expensive (compared to a dual socket).

Interested in using it with e5-2670s. Anyone know good ones or places I can look for them?

Just wanting to ask, why a quad socket?

Supermicro or Tyan should have quad socket mobos

but the form factors is for rack mount servers

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

1. In order to run CPUs in a quad socket motherboard, you must use intels xeon 4000 series (the first number indicates how many CPUs can work together in tandem)

2. Quad socket motherboards are all going to be very expensive, because windows cannot use more than 2 physical processors at the same time (except server editions).

3. Quad socket mobos consume power, A LOT of power. You will need two PSUs to run it.

4.  scaling up CPUs to multiple sockets yields dimishing returns. Thing about returns similar to adding more GPUs to an SLI config

In other words, quad socket mobos are very impractical except for the smallest of situations. Avoid doing it at all costs.

thats all very useful info. Thank you.

You going to have a hard time running a 4 socket system with a CPU that only support a max of 2 sockets... :)

Edit: Seems I skipped over @CUDA_Cores post reading through this topic, also you must have Windows Pro or Enterprise for 2 socket support on a desktop OS, Home etc only support 1.
