xeon vs i5

im looking into these cpus and dont know what to buy.

 

i know the xeon need a different chip set so don't say anything about that.

I guess it depends on what you want to do.. if you're just gaming I'd go with the i5.

In some work loads, the Xeon is better. In other work loads, the i5 will be better.

 

You won't notice much of a difference in most games, but some games (like Fallout 4) really benefit from hyper-threading, which the Xeon has. Personally, I would choose the Xeon, but the i5 is on the newer platform- and you can upgrade to an unlocked i7 down the road.

Different tools for different jobs. What is the scope of the build? Xeons are mostly used for more workstation/commercial uses. Less so for consumer grade applications.

personally I'd go with the xeon for the hyperthreading, but thats based on what I would be doing with it if it were me...

Well I'd say the i5 if it were purely for gaming, but I'm not entirely sure what you need for streaming tbh. Maybe someone smarter than me could say if the advantages of the xeon would help with streaming at all.

i only used 678 for the CPU,Mobo and GPU combo

all good builds honestly. newegg has 16 gigs of ddr4 atm for 72.00 usd ripjaws. id do that and newegg also has the msi z170a sli plus which is very good for 115.00. a q6600k for 230-255 and a cx 600 for 55.00 and 500.00 left for your choice of case, gpu, HDD and cooler. hyper 212 evo is great...

ps leave 20 bucks out for windows 10 on g2play
