Okay, long story short. I'm trying to add a basic graphics card for Internet browsing to the old e machine computer. The on board graphics just can't quite reach 1080p and the entire color pallet is off and the image is distorted.

I was thinking of a nvidia gt 610 low profile with a gb of ram but the issue is that the computer's psu only produces 200 watts.

Is it still possible to use the card even though it calls for 300 watts. Is there any other option I could use? I'm just looking for a plug in card and calling it good.

It might just work, however its more about what the computer draws overall with gpu, not what gpu calls for (except for r9 295x2, but thats off topic.)

The Athlon II x64 drawls 95 watts. I'm going to guess that the on board and other necessities probably takes another 30 watts.

The GT610 is very weaksauce. I'd go with the strongest half-height GPU you can find. The best I could find that would fit in my HTPC (Silverstone ML05 case) was a PNY GT730 1GB GDDR5. I know Linus has his video about crappy low-end cards like this being a waste of money, but they do have their uses and places.

From the testing I've done with it, it's surprisingly not that bad. 200w PSU should be enough. The GT730 1Gb GDDR5 version only has a 25w TDP.

I bought a R5 220 and its working perfectly. It is only being used to watch youtube videos and browsing the web.

If you don't plan on using this for gaming, then pretty-much any new, low end card will suit you fine, I suppose.

I would recommend an older, better card that you could buy used, but the power supply will likely not be able to handle it.   I have a PC with a Radeon HD 6450 and that works fine until you want to play some games.  I know that NVIDIA is coming out with a new GT 730 or something so that might work good for your purposes.
