RAM OC

Hi guys,

I'm a newbie in terms of overclocking anything. Would any of you be so kind and post competent&simple guide to OC RAM? My mobos (ga-z170-d3h) stock settings are set on 2133mhz, so i guess i will need to oc the ram to get to its full 3ghz potential? Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,

 

If the memory was bought with it being advertised at 3000MHz, you should just be able to enable xmp in your bios to get its full 3GHz potential

Your board does support it at 3000MHz right?

Then it will reach max RAM speed with XMP and MHz set to the desired goal! Some boards needs you to set both mine ran by default on 1600MHz of 2133MHz...

okay, so it's just the matter of changing two settings in BIOS/UEFI? It doesnt require any voltage change, right?

Well, it didn't :V I turned on X.M.P., memory automatically turned to 3ghz but after rebooting it said that the system failed to boot so i had to revert changes. Any ideas?

Reset CMOS there should be a button if not then remove the CMOS battery and hold the power button for a while!

No its a button on the motherboard or you have to remove the little battery, you should read the manual and see if there is a button or two pins you need to place a metal object in the middle of!

If you need to remove the battery then NO then you need to unplug all power!

according to little picture in the instruction its two pins, no sign of battery, so i should just put a coin or sth for a brief moment with psu off? And  should i do this after changing settings or it doesnt matter?

I would use a screwdriver or something with a handle so you do not get a small shock! (this is same as the one with button power it most be on also do it on start up!)

Ooookay, so change the uefi settings->reboot->while rebooting put a screwdriver there.

This memory is not on your motherboards QVL list. This means that XMP will most likely not work. However, I can walk you through manually inputting your rams speed and timings, and try to help make it easier for the board to train the memory properly.

 

Go to your voltage settings, and manually enter 1.35v on VDIMM. Next, go to the memory page, and manually enter its clock speed at 3000mhz. Then manually input the primary timings as 15-16-16-35, Command Rate 2. Scroll down in the memory options, and look for an option called MRC Fast Boot, and make sure that it is disabled. Once all of this is finished, save and exit. Let it restart, then wait a full 60 seconds to see if the board can train the memory or not. If it fails to boot after 60 seconds, clear CMOS, and we will just manually overclock the ram to a different speed.
