Odd question...

Ok so although I may be mad, I have had a question in my head all day. Here it is...

 

Does a hard drive get heavier as more data is put onto it?

 

I only ask out of curiosity tbh - I dont mind being called mad either if this question is so obscure...lol

No it reshapes the surface of the hard drive platter not removing or adding material just changing its shape on a hella tiny leval.

No, they don't. They alter magnetic fields on the platter, no weight is added.

Maybe only by a minuscule amount. From my understanding though, writing to a hard drive just means changing the magnetism of regions on the disk. Something like that lol.
