R9 290 Power usage

Ok so i plan on upgrading my system by replacing my old 8gb of ram with 16gb then i want to replace my old r9 270x with my own overclock. I was looking on newegg and i found an R9 290 open box for $200 is this a good deal and will my 850 thermaltake power supply run this card with my FX 8320 and 4 fans??

850W will run pretty much anything these days, so you'll be fine

ok cool. built my system 4 years ago when i was 15 im almost 19 now and i think my PC deserves an upgrade. will that cards still handle ANY game ultra at 1080p?

Should be alright. But definitely not a 60fps for graphically extensive games. But it'll be just fine.

i can play most games at 1080 at medium to high with my 270x custom overclock. so ill probably overclock the 290 a bit also. allright and for $200 thats a decent deal right?

Go look at some benchies for 390/390x as they are effectively the same GPU...

 

In short, Yes it will, my 290x (not CFed with my second 290x) can run GTA 5, r6 seige above 45fps easily (r6 seige at 1080p ultra with no BS AA turned on gets 100-120fps)

well it's an okay deal, nothing special, sounds about the normal price for a used 290

my PC is gonna look kinda derpy. considering im using a MSI micro ATX motherboard and the RAM in it is 1333MHz or 1600(OC)

Ok. And I'm assuming you have some sort of theme inside of your case because you mentioned asthetics, correct? Can you post a picture of the inside of it?

Actually, rethinking this whole situation, can I make a suggestion? It sounds like you are just looking for the best upgrade for the money, right? Looking at what you currently have, I'd say the better upgrade might be going with an i5 4460 and H97 or B85 motherboard. It'll be around your $300 budget, be more efficient/cooler, and could potentially give you a few more fps in games with your current video card because it'll alleviate any potential bottlenecks that the FX cpu gives you. You could also wait and see what AMD's Zen brings to the table.. THEN, if I were you, I'd aim for a new video card.

ill stick with my FX for now. nothing maxes it out so far. cant say the same for my graphics card and ram though. i cant run crossfire and for $200 bucks it would give me (spec wise) two 270x's.

Fair enough. My original suggestion was going to be a Gigabyte R9 380x gpu which runs $220 USD on Newegg, and probably 16gb (2 x 8gb) of Kingston Hyper X which is going for $75 USD on Newegg.

Well after deep thought and consideration I decided to upgrade my PC in a different way.  I bought a Raidmax Hyperion case, Corsair H60 liquid cooler, 16gb of Corsair 1333mhz RAM, and an ASRock 970 pro3 mATX motherboard. That will give me better cable management, the ability for 2 GPU's down the road, Much better cooling(the case allows 9 120mm fans), and still got more RAM
