I am currently in the midst of building a $700 budget gaming pc I have already bought the graphics card( 750ti) for 180 dollars which includes tax and shipping so now i have $520 for the rest of my components.

My question is whether amd or intel offers a cheap start up cpu whilst also being able to upgrade in the future.

By the way all my prices are in CND not USD. So that would play a huge role in the price. Secondly I would like a full atx motherboard to go with the cpu which is also good for future upgrades.

Would love some advice.

Is the more expensive intel worth it or is the cheaper amd value for the cash. For example, by being cheaper do i loose out on `"dramatic change in performance"

...After spending 180$ how do you only have 250$? And Intel has better upgrading routes, but AMD are cheaper but performance, in a sense, worse.

 | CPU: AMD FX 8350 + H100i | GPU: AMD R9 290X + NZXT Kraken | RAM: HyperX Beast 2033 16GB | PSU: EVGA G2 | MOBO: ASRock 970M |

i stated i have $520 left not $250. Also is the lower performence on the amd way worse than the intel version or is it just a slight difference

Oh, my bad, I read it wrong, and in my opnion, its way worse, I'd recommend intel, but it isn't cheap

motherboard: Asrock anniversary Z97(dirt cheap were i live for something decent, i have it)

CPU: something that fitts that motherboard like an I5 4460 or I5 4690K or some I3 that fitts LGA1150 to later upgrade to an I5.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Intel.

You will not be happy with AMD right now, because they are sadly SO far behind.

An i3 dual Core destroys an FX 6300, despite its 6 Cores. even in MultiThread performance, the FX is at the same level, at best. Single Core perfornance is 50-100% better, depending on application.

At least go for an i5 6500 + a cheap B150 board, and you're set.

Having a good base (CPU) is very important, since you will keep that for 5~+ Years easy. While the GPU you will replace 2-4 times during that period.

Even, if for NOW going with an AMD will let you have a slightly stronger GPU atm, but as soon you upgrade that in 1-2 years, your "Base" will still be bad.

Am3+ is a dead socket, nothing will come out. And there are tons of people who upgrade from their FX 6300/8300 to an intel Skylake, because it gives SUCH a high boost.

You will only LOSE Money that way.

Remember: If you buy Cheap in the wrong places, you WILL buy twice.

however i5 6500 is like $300 so how would i spend the rest of the money in order to stay within budget

wat 300? D:

Is Canada THAT expensive? >_<

How much is an i3 6100?

Or haswell i5 4460?

Edit: Oh btw, i' ve seen some tests.

With weaker GPUs, like the 750 ti, it doesnt matter. The FPS will be the same almost, with an i5, or an Athlon X4 860K even.

But if you go up to stronger GPUs (in that test it was a GTX 780. Which should be around R9 380x - R9 390, or GTX 960 - 970~), the Intel pulls ahead. In some games to almost double the fps.

So, idk what would be really the best... Im not a fan of compromises. So i like to either buy right, or keep saving.

Otherwise, the Regret might come later. I've had such regrets a couple of times...

You're better off with an i3 build to start with.  If you want any kind of upgradeability that is.  You could get a fx6300(a mistake I made a little over a year ago) and have no real upgrade path.  On top of it pretty much directly competing with haswell i3's.. you're just not going to cram much better into that socket.

If you go the athlon route, you'll run into the same problem.  A very mediocre cpu with no upgrade.

At least with an i3, you can still upgrade to the i5 or i7 later on.

You have a very tight budget. If you can afford to upgrade in a couple of years I would recommend getting something like the Gigabyte Z97-HD3 m/bd and pairing it with the Pentium G3258. O/C ing the piss out of it will give good performance for a while even with only 2 cores. Between those two you should be able to have $300 to buy everything else and it gives you the chance to upgrade to an i5 or i7 later. Haswell but there's still a ton of them around.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!

Allright.. What about the FX 8320 / 8320E? Here in germany, its like 20-25 bucks more than the 6300.
