G303, should I try one out?

Lays

I've had a G502 for about a year now, but I kind of don't like the weight of it very much.

The G303 is $49 from best buy, and I have one right up the street from me.

I was kind of thinking of trying one, but wanted to know if anyone else here has tried both the G502 and G303, and could give me some thoughts.

I know the G303 is like 40 grams lighter, which I think I'd like a lot more.

I play CS:GO / BF4 / Rainbow Six Siege / LoL and a lot of other FPS games, sometimes many hours a day will bug me on the G502. (If I play like 10 hours of CSGO or something on my day off from work, my wrist will start to hurt a little bit)

Stuff:  i7 7700k @ (dat nibba succ) | ASRock Z170M OC Formula | G.Skill TridentZ 3600 c16 | EKWB 1080 @ 2100 mhz  |  Acer X34 Predator | R4 | EVGA 1000 P2 | 1080mm Radiator Custom Loop | HD800 + Audio-GD NFB-11 | 850 Evo 1TB | 840 Pro 256GB | 3TB WD Blue | 2TB Barracuda

I thought the point of the G502 was to be able to adjust the weight? (as well as just being a good mouse)

I briefly used it in a store.  I was actually surprised how nice it felt to me.  I wanted it, but did not need it.

All the weights are removed from it, it still weighs like 125 grams, whilst G303 is only ~85 grams.

It's still considered pretty heavy without the weights, I like the weight of it though tbh. But not everyone does.

Ah, that makes sense. I was considering this mouse, but I assumed that the weight was the average (say with 2-3 weights in)

Some G303's develop a rattling sensor issue which is extremely annoying, so be wary of that.

The G502 is a brick even without the weights installed.

That doesn't really answer my question though :(

If it does have that issue, a simple RMA could fix the issue if I get a good one back, and I could just use the G502 meantime while I wait.

I'd suggest trying the G303 before making a purchase. The shape is very weird and some people (including myself) find it uncomfortable for prolonged use. People with smaller hands who use fingertip or claw grip (or hybrid between those) will probably find it comfortable. Forget about palming a G303 if your hands are bigger than 18cm.

If you are looking for other small and light mice, I'd suggest the EVGA TORQ X5. It's usually slightly cheaper than the G303 and has the excellent S3988 optical sensor.

Now that's a dramatic exaggeration :P

I have extra weights in mine.

$50 for me isn't a big deal at all for a purchase, if I don't like it I won't be upset over the $50.  I believe I can return it as well, best buy's return policy isn't bad I hear.

I have like a hybrid palm/fingertip, my palm sits above the mouse slightly.  I watched a video recently and a guy reviewing the G303 had a similar mouse grip as me, so I think it'd be nice.

For the short CS:GO session I had with it, I couldn't claw grip it properly and that thing just felt heavy for playing on low sensitivity. So I ended up classifying it as a brick with the desire to throw it into Mordor. :P Not that my Rival 300 is light, but the weight is just so perfectly balanced and is extremely easy to claw grip and lift.

Then pull the trigger on the G303. It should be fine if you have small hands.

I have large hands, but so did the guy in the review so I think it should be aight.

Buddy asked me if I like the G303 if he could buy my G502 for $35, so I can just do that if I like the 303.

If I end up not liking it, I should be able to return it or at the very least resell it, so it's OK.

Thanks for the help everybody

Hah! Well personal preference is king :P I use incredibly high sensitivity, especially in CSGO.

Although it's far too tiny for me :\ not that any mouse out there isn't tiny compared to my baseball mitts lol.
