Which GPU is better

Go to solution Solved by RagingTyphoon,

Well I have made my decision,

HIS Radeon HD 7970 IceQ X Graphics Cards (H797QM3G2M)

I'd say the OC'd 7970, the 7970 overclocks great.

CPU: Intel Core i5 2550K @ 4GHz | Cooler: Gelid Tranquillo Rev. 2 | Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3

GPU: XFX 1GB HD6850 OC'd | SSD: OCZ Agility 3 60GB | HDD: Samsung 500GB | PSU: Corsair HX520W | Case: Zalman Z11+

The XFX one is louder though

The Windforce is quiter than both but it's locked voltage so :/

The Gigabyte Windforce is actually quite loud, wasn't like that until they locked the voltages on the new PCBs, they leak more current & generate more heat.

Gigabyte & XFX 7900 series cards should be generally avoided because of the locked voltage and the loud coolers.

The best 7970s out there are the HIS IceQ X², Sapphire Dual-X & MSI Twinfrozr.

These are voltage unlocked & very quiet especially the HIS & the Dual-X.

The msi 770 is $400 and the 7970 sapphire is $ 325, bit the XFX is only $309.

At stock the 770 beats the 7970 and when OC the 7970 beats the 770 but not by much so considering the dramatic price difference I would go the 7970 route or you could pony up a couple hundred more for a 780.

I agree the Sapphire is a quality product and a lot quiter than a XFX version on max chat!!  :)

770 is the better card, 7970 is a great overclocker tho. Guess it comes down to preference and price.

In this case I'd go with the 7970.

Sapphire is the best manufacturer of AMD cards and the HD 7970 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009B6Y01Y/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B009B6Y01Y&linkCode=as2&tag=amzon0c-20 is a great buy right now. Personally, I'd go with the HIS HD 7970 IceQ X2 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007LFV7RM/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B007LFV7RM&linkCode=as2&tag=amzon0c-20 which is by far the best card for the money right now and is a great performer also.

Anyone knows if the reference HIS 7970 and reference Sapphire 7970 are both voltage UNlocked?

Really wanna try to get the most out of 7970 since I'm irked by 780's price and the notion that 770(stock)>7970(stock) but 770(OC)=>7970(OC).

I may have been confused soz.

Wait for the 9000 series if possible. Otherwise, get the 7970 as it's lower priced and has the 3GB vram along with a wider memory bus.
