Only got one 6 pin..

poker1059

So I put my 8800 GTX in my newly built , But not done yet PC, to replace the cheap Intel graphics but then I realized, my PSU only has one 6+2 pin PCI connector, With only one plugged in it still boots up and displays, but image looks fuzzy (possibly need drivers to be installed or updated) but it leaves me wondering with only one PCI connector it works, but do I need the second one and whats the second one for?

Spoiler

[CPU] - Intel Core i5-4590

[Motherboard] - MSI B85-G43 GAMING

[RAM] - Kingston HyperX Beast (2x4GB) 1866Mhz... CPU only supports 1600Mhz

[SSD] - A-Data SP600 128GB SSD

[HDD]- 1Tb Seagate Barracuda

[GPU] - EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SSC

[Case] - Corsair SPEC-03 White

[PSU] - Rosewill 450W 80+Bronze

I'd say it'd be best to have both of em, if you have to, use a 2x molex to 6 pin adapter.

With only one 6pin power connector, I'd guess it'd crash due to a lack of power when at high load.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

You can TRY with just the one, but, likely will need both to even boot.

Is this new rig the one in your signature with a 4590? Because that chip's iGPU is actually better than an 8800 GTX.

4590 yes, A while back I had posted a topic asking if I should put in my 8800 GTX they said it'd be better than Intel graphics but at this point it seems more logical to save up for an R9 380 which only takes an 8 pin

Who said it would be better? Haswell iGPUs are bad, sure, but the 8800 GTX is an old card.

Granted, the difference is only slight, but still...

I understand my next question is why does an R9 380 need significantly more power than a 960? And can I get away with powering an R9 380 with a 450 watt PSU960.png.4d2ac4c34c85ed96d0e519535c3457e656bfa9d4b062c_r9380.png.366fcfa4b5cb13d7

AMD cards are known to consume a lot of power, that's just how they are.

You could get away with using that PSU, but I'd recommend making it the next upgrade on the list after the 380.

I definitely plan on Upgrading it, no doubt.
