So i have r9 380 4gb ddr5

16gb ddr4

and MSI 170A krait gaming motherboard

i want to overclock via beta bios that is now "supported" via this Z-lane motherboards.

would i5-6400 be better when overclocking to abt 4,2GHz 'cus it gave me more power (from 2,7GHz) or i5-6500 when OC-ing from 3,2 to 4,2GHz? also got CM hyper 212 evo cooling system

and 550 PSU is enough for this slight OC right?

new skylake series are overclockable via BCKL OC. of course you need to have Z-lane motherboard for that and that's still in beta version..

Intel confirmed to PC World today that a microcode update will be closing the loophole.

Ignoring the fact you can edit microcode, and on certain boards you can just straight up have a menu to select different ones to use.

so youre going to go all the way to download an illegal BIOS with code that has been intentionally removed so that you can get speed you didnt pay for in the first place, AND also has risks that can make stuff in your OS malfunction?

Plus ive heard that windows will also be implementing measures to prevent those non-k chips from overclocking, idk if thats true or not

The OC Formula on post with the newer bios allow you to hit a key to enable skyOC still  to push it to your hearts content, that is one board that will probably have it till its basically shut down by microsoft or intel gives them the old lawsuit hammer. But even then its something most people are gonna do as serious overclockers on super lightweight version of operating systems
