worth the risk isn't it?

i mean idk why intel wants to shut it down at all. that's great marketing for them and a big plus in my opinion

not really, i prefer having windows 10, not some cracked BIOS and an old version of windows and no security updates

how is it great marketing, they wont sell any 6700ks if you cna overclock the cheaper 6700

it literally makes no sense and completely ruins the product line

theres a reason they are stopping it

theres been articles on the stuff that it can mess up, look it up yourself

the k and non-k product line has been like this for over half a decade, so why do you complain now and not earlier?

that just reinforces my point...

same CPU, same wafer, both can overclock, no reason why a K cpu should get .5GHz higher

Totally agree with you man. Just a sulimple walk around to get performances like K series... Also if you have downloaded beta bios and installed it + you dont update windows cus i dont, win-win situation

the reason they are stopping it is to increase sales of k cpus again which they make more profit on. there is plenty of false info out there and you seem to have eaten it all up. you dont have first hand experience with the platform at all. I happen to be in the community where they test and make the bios's in the first place, so this was a good break through. also i have complained all the time...... also it does mess up anything unless you like watch prime 95 running on your pc daily.

Overclocking non-k CPU's should void your warranty and nothing more, remember the Core2Duo days ? Everyone had the right to do what ever they wanted with their hardware and that was that.

this, apart from it doesn't even void your warranty. you can send back delided cpus and as long as there is no physical damage they cant even tell.

also, I am in the position where I dont download stuff illegally to consume it, it is for imaginary internet points, as I already have the software legitimately.

i dont really need to link loads of bs for google, because like i said, i have a z170 board and 3 cpus 2 of which are locked. ocuk sell a bundle with locked cpus and have a warranty on it. that right there is evidence that what you are saying is bs and also yes i am having a great day, because earlier i ran my LOCKED i3 6320 at over 5.3ghz on phase and it was great :D

you still havent proven how you can "easily edit microcode" and make a bios overclockable on any motherboard

or are you talking about only the asrock motherboard which is no longer coming with that BIOS?

so people who want to overclock non-k CPUs need to buy a crappy asrock motherboard and download a BIOS from an unofficial source (since asrock no longer provides it) and then disable security updates on windows so that it doesnt get blocked with an update?

Just now, Enderman said:

you still havent proven how you can "easily edit microcode" and make a bios overclockable on any motherboard

or are you talking about only the asrock motherboard which is no longer coming with that BIOS?

so people who want to overclock non-k CPUs need to buy a crappy asrock motherboard and download a BIOS from an unofficial source (since asrock no longer provides it) and then disable security updates on windows so that it doesnt get blocked with an update?

"Crappy ASRock motherboard" Literally best Z170 Board, but I will continue,http://www.win-raid.com/t154f16-Tool-Guide-News-quot-UEFI-BIOS-Updater-quot-UBU.html

There is a link to the editor.

And you dont need to disable security updates.

its a drop down menu in the bios, its not editing it, your just choosing the version, just like you can use and older gpu driver. also none of the bios's were ever offical in house made bios's and they are not from a dodgey source either. they were made by the overclocking community for us to oc locked chips. most of the guys who help put them together work for motherboard manufactures.  also this particular code update cant be done through windows.
