I think the 5820 cpu will be better for Star Citizen, but researched 2 builds anyway.  Planning on 3 screen 1440p setup.  Will go at least 1080p

Which GPU is prefered?  The GIG Windforce or EVGA FTW?  Im guessing theyre similiar.

Im planning on adding a second GPU (matching) at some point

FYI this will be my first build, Im hoping it will last a while.

Regarding Star Citizen, I'm not sure.

If you are going to edit video, go for the 5820 build as those extra cores will really help.

But if you aren't, go for the 6700 build and overclock the crap out of the CPU. I've seen so much turbo-boost on the 6700K and it makes me jealous.

But good luck man, hope it works out really well for you. ;)

The x99 chip was designed for workplace environments- video and photo editors and so on. If you are not doing that, go Skylake. You won't see a difference and you'll save a bit of money. If you plan to do 3x1440p in the future it would be best if you got two 980ti's- that's a lot of pixels to drive, especially in Star Citizen.

Thanks. Right now the extra cores work better with star citizen, although it hasn't been fully optimized yet.  Is there a disadvantage to the x99 aside from being slightly slower in normal operation?

I play lol and watch TV off of my computer so star citizen would be what I'm optimizing for.

I initially planned on skylake but it's not much more expensive.

Will the cpu be the bottleneck in gaming?

And I plan on getting a second gpu at some point. Wanted to start with one since I can't afford all three monitors and the computer right now

I agree skylake is more reasonable but star citizen will utilize the extra cores and that cpu is actually cheaper than skylake. Are there any real drawbacks to x99?

No. There's no drawbacks with x99. Will be plenty fast for normal operation as well as work.
