Fucked my cpu?

So I was changing my thermal pare because my temps were like 90c on my 212 evo. When I put the heat sink back on i had to push super hard, but I didn't think anything of it because when I first put it on I had to also had to push really hard to get the last screw to screw down. But now my pc will start make a weird noise and then shut off idk what's wrong.

It sounds like you mounted your cooler incorrectly and the cpu is overheating and shutting itself down. So I would try remounting the cooler.

 

What are your CPU temps when it shuts itself down?

you dont press hard...

you should never press hard

the heat sink spreads the paste its self...

you fucked it up

would help though to know the cpu

dont they still have pins on their cpu? yeah you might of fucked a couple hundred of them

To mount a 212 evo you do generally have to put some force into it to screw it down. You shouldn't push it per se, but it does require force while screwing it in.

Perspective is everything. A lot of newer builders view computer parts as very delicate and thus a great force should never be applied -- well, try inserting RAM (or pushing down the CPU lockdown arm) with that in mind and you'll never seat it properly. So...perspective

Unless your Linus or Slick. Then you can load computer parts with glitter or stuff boxes and shirts in the case and everything still operates normally.

I took out out and all the pins are fine

No it's mounted right and it shuts down right away it runs for like 1 sec then it shuts down

Ever mount a 212 evo? It takes a lot of force to get the 4th screw into the standoff. Also an amd cpu's pins would be fine if it is sitting in the socket. Each pin is in its own slot, and the socket as a whole would move as one. Intel sockets on the other hand.....

My FX stays at 45-55c with a 212 Evo so you need to re-seat the cooler!

If you are confident it is mounted properly, and it was the only thing you changed, and it is not working .... sounds like you have your answer

You might have damaged the motherboard, either the traces or one of the many tiny components. Your cpu, unless you cracked the die itself should be fine

You have a secondary CPU and/or motherboard? Test the CPU on a different motherboard.

This almost reminds me of the pfSense router Linus "built"

remove the battery (from the motherboard) that looks like a quarter and put it back in.

There should be a jumper on your motherboard that should allow you to clear it. Or google it
