System crashing on game load!

Go to solution Solved by FoxxyRin,

Dud PSUs can happen, so it wouldn't be unheard of. Your other PSU should be able to power the 980 Ti no problem with what all you have in your system. Try a different PSU and see if you're still crashing. If you are, then it's not the PSU and likely something else. It could also be a faulty GPU, or even just something as simple as over-heating. Try running your games in windowed mode on high settings and watch the temperatures. If it's getting hot, either you have bad cooling or a bad card, though I can't be sure with your PC, since I don't know how it's setup. If it's just shutting off for no reason and it's not the PSU, then I would RMA the GPU.

Hi again everyone

I have a problem with my system. Every time i set my settings up high on my games and load them it crashes.

Not like the game crash to desktop, like the crash-and-reboot-from-bios crash.

Really getting frustrating now because i bought this new gpu and i can't use it

My System Specs are:

I5-4460

8gb ddr3 ram

GA-H97-D3H mobo

GTX 980ti G1

1200W PSU

SSD boot drive

500gb WD Blue

2tb WD Black

Damn bro, I'll be honest that doesn't sound good. Does it blue screen or just shut straight off?

Almost as cool as my temps

it shuts straight off, although to be honest i have disabled the pagefile because of my ssd's write cycles.

Also i think it might be my ram on the way out. Not sure though that's why i asked here

If you could, test your GPU on a different system. If it's causing the same issues, then RMA it.

It sounds like a PSU issue, but that PSU is definitely strong enough for what you have... Do you happen to have another power supply laying around that you could try just to see if somehow the PSU is dying on you? I'd also definitely triple-check all the connections to everything are good. A loose cable can cause all sorts of wonky things to happen.

Unfortunately this isnt possible, i posted here to try to get people's opinion on what it would be. Hoping not to have to rma my brand new 1.1k gpu

Its possible to switch them over, yes. Only problem is that my old psu is only a 600watt so idk wether that would solve anything. The psu is actually only about a month old

possible as i am running a stock cooler, although not likely as it stays a constant fan speed

Try running a cpu stress test and see if your system restarts

okay so just an update: i've run stress tests with prime95, furbench, intel burn test and futuremark. no crashes. Even ran intel burn test and furbench at the same time to try to overload psu, have no f****** clue what is wrong with the system. Actually done everything short of ripping out the psu and installing a new one because that would require extreme amounts of effort.

FRUSTRATION! :|

Try that, if it's not the PSU maybe the 980ti G1 isn't kicking in from its "silent" mode that's causing an overheat. An overheated GPU will do this. Also note that it simply could be a bad card. I had a similar issue after accidentally leaving my PC on all night, it was a Gigabyte AMD 7870. It got a bit toasty.

I had a similar problem with my 970, still not sure what the issue was but reinstalling windows fixed it. My system was blue screening for about a second and restarting and functioning, BSOD's seemed random too as they weren't consistent to a game but, installing windows fresh and attempting to make it crash might be a good idea, Even better if you have a spare drive you can use without getting rid of your current boot drive.
