Are SSHDs worth it?

Is an SSHD a good option for a single drive solution?

depends on witch one, but most of time no.

Ssds are getting cheap.

In general, not worth it. They just have a small cache that makes frequently used applications/files load faster. Depending on the size and cost, you may be better off going with a smaller HDD and a standalone SSD for your OS and programs.

no. 99% of the time they run like a normal hdd. the ssd cache is small and its constantly overwritten

go with ssd

Not much of a performance gain, might as well save a few bucks with a regular HDD.

I personally don't bother.  An SSHD is just a compromise, not a proper solution, mainly since SSDs aren't that expensive.

I'd say if you had a laptop, and wanted more storage than what an similarly priced ssd could offer, an SSHD wouldn't be a bad option. But high capacity SSDs are starting to become more common soooo there's a trade off.
For desktops, I'm still a fan of the classic Boot SSD+ Storage HDD combination.

Need a lot of data, don't have extra expansion options and money? Then yes.

So I guess what I'm asking is is there a noticeable performance difference between an sshd and something like a wd blue?

No. No faster than a mechanical hard disk. I have personal experience with one. Its just as bad as a normally hard disk. to the point Im planning on replacing mine with an SSD.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

As I have a two SSHD's one in my desktop and one in my laptop, I'll share my opinion. I'm now moving to an SSD in my desktop but I wouldn't bother with the Laptop as the price difference is crazy, at least where I live. Now SSHD's do offer faster loads times for your OS and your most used applications then a traditional HDD, but as its only 8Gb of SSD, don't expect all your applications to be faster.

I personally think they are good for Laptops with only one hard drive bay, plus again this is due to my region, the SSHD's have longer Warranties then standard mechanical hard drives in the same price bracket.

So basically depending on your location, prices and warranty length will determine whether they are worth it imo.
