Alienware 17 R2+144hz refresh rate monitor

Hey everyone,

 

Basically I have a Alienware 17 R that I purchased for a great price that i could not pass up....well I just picked up a Asus VG248 monitor that supports 144hz. For whatever reason I am unable to change my resolution to 144hz it only shows 60hz. I am currently hooked up via DVI-D to Mini Displayport. Is there anyway to use the 970m as the default GPU instead of the Intel Integrated GPU?
