I recently bought a new SSD, and I havent used it one bit. All i know that it works, but I want to learn how to set it up so I can move games and other applications from my HDD. If there is a video you can post or some other source which can tell me how, I'll be very appreciative. Thankyou

  1. Install it. (Plug in SATA power cable + SATA data cable.)
  2. Install Windows on it. If you plan to use your HDD for games and such, you'll want two instances of Windows, though data migration is possible.
  3. (optional) Back up games and important data of HDD, and format it. (Otherwise, just delete everything you don't need, including any Windows files.)
  4. Set targets of Windows folders you wish to link to HDD.
  5. Set Steam Library folder to HDD from the Downloads settings in Steam.

That's it! If you need any further explanation or assistance, just ask!

I would see if you can shrink your existing HDD partition to smaller than the size of the SSD, clone the HDD to the SSD with clonezilla, boot it up to make sure it WORKS with the old HDD unplugged, then format the old HDD and put stuff you rarely use on it, or games that do not need SSD speeds.

Well I already have windows on my HDD, is there a way I can copy the data to the SSD, it already runs and everything as shown on This PC

Well, you could use another computer to copy the windows files and any other speed hungry apps onto the SSD. Then, you could delete windows on the old HDD, and there you go!

That's what I meant by data migration. How large is your Windows installation? If it's small, it's possible to copy it over to your SSD. Otherwise, you'll want to start "fresh." Ideally, too, it's always best to simply start with a new installation anyways, to prevent potential conflicts and issues.

You can use cloning software to copy everything from the hard drive over to the SSD. Many applications will accomplish this including MiniTool Partition Wizard, which is free.

You don't have to pay for it again. Just need to know your windows key.

It might need to be re-formatted.

I wont have to use it anyway, its old and its probably going to die soon. I also don't use that much storage so I'll just leave it be mostly because im lazy
