So I turned on my computer today to see that windows had forced some big Win 10 update and after finally getting it to boot I was greeted with multiple issues.  Now I get that Eject GPU bug, had visual issues with games, my GPU pretty much ejected itself mid game and my cpu rocketed to 100%.

Anyways, the biggest pain is I can't open windows start menu.  Clicking on it does nothing.  I've tried restarting multiple times with no luck.

Any ideas?

The latest Windows 10 update adds an option to "eject" your GPU.

@ToeJullar Can you right-click the start menu? If so, right-click the start menu, and run the Command Prompt as an administrator. Then run the command "sfc /scannow" without quotes. Let Windows do its thing, and report back results.

Are you talking about the new feature that the nvidia drivers added for GPU hotswap?

You know, I never even thought about that... That might be why that is showing up.

its a feature not an error

Hmm, pretty sure my windows is corrupt after this update went through.  My taskbar is frozen in a weird state and does not show icons when new programs open.  Also, If I attempt to open Taskmanager it instantly crashes.  As for my taskbar, it was right clickable when I took that screencap but now it is entirely unclickable.  I can take screencaps using my 3rd party software, but yeah I'll see if I can get a terminal opened.

Happened to me twice. Try resetting Windows. It fixes it back deletes your apps

Alright, how do I go about that?  I currently have access to control panel.  Windows file explorer, and cmd.

Spoiler

Resetting lets you choose whether to keep your files or remove them, and then reinstalls Windows. To get started, go toSettings > Update & security > Reset this PC > Get started and choose an option.

Note

  • If you can't open Settings, you can get to reset by restarting your PC from the sign-in screen. Press the Windows logo key Windows logo key+L to get to the sign-in screen, then hold the Shift key down while you select Power Power icon > Restart in the lower-right corner of the screen. After your PC restarts, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.

If you can't get to the sign-in screen, use a recovery drive or installation media to reset your PC.

Option What it does

Keep my files

  • Reinstalls Windows 10 and keeps your personal files.

  • Removes apps and drivers you installed.

  • Removes changes you made to settings.

  • Removes any apps your PC manufacturer installed. (If your PC came with Windows 10, apps from your PC manufacturer will be reinstalled.)

Remove everything

  • Reinstalls Windows 10 and removes all your personal files.

  • Removes apps and drivers you installed.

  • Removes changes you made to settings.

  • Removes any apps your PC manufacturer installed. (If your PC came with Windows 10, apps from your PC manufacturer will be reinstalled.)

If you're planning to donate, recycle, or sell your PC, use this option and choose to fully clean the drive. This might take an hour or two, but it makes it harder for other people to recover files you've removed.

Restore factory settings

  • Reinstalls the version of Windows that your PC came with (either Windows 8 or Windows 8.1) and removes your personal files.

  • Removes apps and drivers you installed.

  • Removes changes you made to settings.

  • Reinstalls any apps your PC manufacturer installed on your PC.

This option isn't available on all PCs.

Note

  • If you reset your PC within a month of your upgrade to Windows 10, the option in Settings that lets you go back to your previous version of Windows will no longer be available.

Appreciate the help but it seems all windows 10 apps are broken.  Can't open the settings app even.  I found a command "SFC /scannnow" that should check to see if anything is corrupt, which 100% is.  If it fails I'll go to my backup from November as last resort.

That didnt work out for me. You can try creating a new user.

Hmm, well the SFC scan showed no corrupted files, go figure.  I can't make a new user, its just freezes up on me and goes to that whited out look.

What a pain in the ass.  Guess I'm gonna have to go back to my backup.

Looks like my display drivers crapped out too.

Guess you should back up all your steam folder and stuff. Then Reinstall a fresh copy of windows 10, also disable windows update

Is there any way I can install windows fresh?  I don't have a disk or anything since I came from Win 7.
