So I have $32 I'm looking to spend on my rig, and seeing as I'm still using a stock cooler, I thought maybe a new cpu cooler would be a smart decision(it was between that and a wifi adapter). My cpu is an fx-6300(it doesn't accurately report cpu temps which makes me somewhat wary about putting it under load...) Also keep in mind that I have a 120mm noctua that I can put on the EVO to replace the fan that comes with it. I just have a few questions before I buy this. Is it a good cooler, or is there something better for under $32(yes $32, not 10, 20, or 30 dollars more)? Will I be able to overclock a little? I see that it supports most if not all sockets, but do you think it will be able to fit the new AMD zen cpus when they come out?(I'd rather not replace my cpu cooler if at some point I upgrade to that, I know probably no one knows for sure, but ill take speculation) Also will it fit in a deepcool tesseract? I wouldn't want to buy something and find that its too long for my case...

Don't do drugs. Do hugs!

Lol I was going to get a 212 evo for my birthday but the package got stolen off of the front porch. I'm not an expert with cooling, but I believe you should be able to do a mild overclock with that cooler, seeing as Linus has overclocked with the Intel stock cooler anyways...

What kind of dollars are you using?
If you're not oc'ing, the stock cooler is fine. If you want to see load temps, just run a stress test and measure them.
The 212 Evo fits in your case just fine and should be enough for a moderate oc..

Just another question I had: is this gonna put a strain on my motherboard? From the pictures it looks quite big and heavy. I'm somewhat worried about it sagging or the board cracking...

The mounting hardware is there to distribute the weight of the cooler across the motherboard. The weight isn't and rarely is an issue.

I'm using U.S. dollars. I did run a stress test and measured them. Then I posted them on the forums because I was getting temps below room temperature at idle on the stock cooler, and I think under load it was about 50. It was explained to me that the fx-6300 doesn't report temperatures back correctly. Hence why it makes me a tad nervous.

The sensor has issues measuring lower temps. At idle and temps low enough where the sensor have trouble picking them up, your temps are already low enough that you shouldn't worry about them.
A quieter alternative to the 212 Evo is the Pure Rock: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/be-quiet-cpu-cooler-bk009

Well, not sure who to believe here. xD multiple people told me in the thread I originally made that there wasnt a sensor at all, and that certain AMD cpu's try to predict their temperature with software, which was what caused it. But then again who knows, i'm no expert, you could be right and them all wrong.

As far as the Pure Rock, does it have any significant cooling advantage over the 212 evo, keeping in mind that I would be replacing the fans with noctuas? Noise isn't much of an issue for me as I have a rather peculiar setup. I have my PC on the other side of the room from me, and I just use my display, mouse, and keyboard on the other side of the room where I can't even hear it.

I'm not entirely sure on how it works but AMD uses an algorithm that should work just fine above 45c but isn't accurate below that.
The Pure Rock performs similarly to the 212 Evo but is quieter. At the very least, you get a nicer fan along with it.

I've used the hyper 212 on a fx6300 before, It performed just fine.  I was able to run a very stable 4.5ghz overclock with temps that didn't go above low 60's during stress testing.  I'm not saying you will see the same results, but what I achieved was very common for that combo from what I could research.

Ok, that makes more sense. Thanks, that makes me a lot less nervous about putting it under load, lol.

Backplates on aftermarket coolers are designed to distribute weight of cooler. 212 is hardly massibe, big or heavy. Not when you could have huge dual tower like D14.
