Im surprised on how many channels are transmitted over the air. It does take some fine tuning, which can be a pain in the ass. However, Im getting like 32 channels. Now Im trying to make the decision if a DVR would be worth it. Ive seen a few. Might be worth it as I dont have a smart TV and most of the DVR's I seen added smart features.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Can you explain your situation a bit more? A DVR would be used to record correct?

Yeah. You have the channel mast, Tablo and others. You hook them up to you HD antenna and they recored live TV. Basically they are competitors to Tivo. Some of these have smart features like netflix and stuff. Ive looked in to TV tuner cards for my gaming rig, but Microsoft being the A Hole that it is, killed off Windows Media Center, which was the best DVR software for Windows.

If live TV isn't a big deal, I recommend staying the free OTA channels. You can get Netflix and using Popcorn Time for everything else.

I have Netflix. It just I have a concern if the A holes in DC have their way, Bandwidth caps will be a thing. Ive seen I use 70 Gigs of bandwidth myself, thats not counting my parents. My dad has a Roku stick on his TV. I know for a fact my mom watches Netflix. I have a tendency to watch my shows online at a website I know, HE HE. However Im just concerned because I know the governments track record with the telecommunications industry. Fortunately with me, most if not all the shows I watch are on broadcast TV. The only inconvenience for me is the 20 foot or so Coax cable I have running across my wall, to put it in the sweet spot.

Check out the HDHomeRun Extend.

Also, to see a complete list of channels available in your area, see AntennaWeb

I could do that with a hapauge card too. The issue is software. Thats where it all falls short. Windows Media Center is dead. I haven't found anything that seems good. I cant run another PC in my room or any where else for that matter. Thats why Im almost thinking its a bad idea.
