Yes. As long as you don't move them around during operation, they can sit in any position.

As GG said, it does not matter.  Otherwise they would not be suitable for laptops.

You can mount them in any angle you want

HDD only can get damaged by acceleration and deceleration such as the ones from falling onto the floor

thankyou all, @Glenwing what do you mean for laptops? also laptops are moved a lot whilst running and do they install hdd's in laptops upside down or something?

As long as it is mounted securely (so it's not shaking or vibrating) you can mount an HDD in any orientation.
