I'm planning a new computer build and narrowed my choices down to 5 for a CPU. I'm not very experienced with technical stuff, and it seems like there's so little variation between them that it's insignificant, but I want to check first.

i5-4670K

i5-4690

i5-4590

i5-6600K

i7-4770

I'll be doing quite a bit of gaming, possibly editing videos (but I'm not worried about quick rendering)

Thanks!

If you overclock, the 6600k will beat all of those.

best for video editing is 4770 and best for gaming is the 6600k

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

For gaming, yes. For video editing, the 4770 should do best thanks to hyperthreading.

OP doesn't care about rendering times.

Then either the 6600K or the i7 4770, the i7 would be a bit "overkill" but overkill doesent exist when it comes to personal builds!

If you are streaming and editing get an i7, if you are not, get an i5.
 (i7 4790, 4790k, 6700, 6700k)                     (i5 4460, 4690k, 6400, 6600k)

Are you going to overclock?
Yes + i7                 No and i7         Yes and i5            No and i5
(4790k or 6700k)  (4790 or 6700) (4690k or 6600k) (4460 or 6400)

If you want the latest CPUs, get the ones that start with "6xxx"

Rendering times isn't the only part of video editing. Just processing the video for editing, and the speed of the workflow will improve with the i7.
