The G1 from Gigabyte overclocks pretty good. Mine does 1540 Mhz without touching the voltage.

If I'm not mistaken, most peeps will go FTW+ for overclocking.

All the EVGA 970's suck in terms of locked TDP and voltage control, they have a switch gate resistor on the voltage controller, max physical voltage is 1.26v.

 

Gigabyte G1 Gaming and the new Gigabyte Extreme, everything else is poo for OC.

1.26v is plenty for the stock air cooler. My Gigabyte G1 sometimes pulls over 300W, and heats up a lot. So if he's not gonna get aftermarket cooling, going over 1.26V makes no sense, unless he wants his card to overheat.

And the G1 now comes with Hynix memory afaik, which sucks.

my strix gets 1550 on core and 8000 mhz on mem, all stock

I got a GTX 970 G1 and I can easily pull 350 or so watts from the wall with it when i have it overclocked to 1500Mhz.

i use a  G1 gaming 980 and it went up +50mhz to 1427mhz clock with max voltage and power so it still depends on the type of chip you get

Mine boosts to 1392Mhz, it's rated maximum boost clock but I have heard some naturally boost a bit higher.

overclocking just raises the max boost clock

I just gave it a 40mv overvolt and a 100Mhz core offset and it runs at 1500Mhz 24/7 stable with a 100mhz offset on the memory.

dam thats a shitty overclocker then, you said that its a g1 gaming card ?.... my strix i can get a 222 offset on my core but it boost up to 1550 mhz and i have a 990 offset on my memory and thats all stock voltage and power limit..

Not every card can overclock the same and 1500Mhz is still pretty fast considering its stock boost clock is about 1400mhz.

but still thats pretty low for a g1 gaming as there said to be the best overclocker and have binned chips for the best overclocks
