My GPU is being a "DERP"! [help]

Hi, so i have some problems with my graphics card crashing on me. On some games like Battlefield 3, Assassin's Creed 3 and Far Cry 3 my GPU just crashes. I can play from 5 minutes to 5 hours and then my games just freezes and drags me out to the desktop with my game still running in the background. I can still hear like game-sounds from the game until i close the program manually. I have tried to change settings from highest to lowest which didn't help anything at all.

This problem is really annoying because some of the games that i play the most crashes the most.

I should probably also mention that i also notice some freezing in some games. (1-5 sec freeze)

Specs:

GPU: ASUS GTX 580 DirectCU II

CPU: Intel i7-2600K NO OC atm (fresh install and trying to fix problem first)

RAM: 16GB Kingston 1600MHz CL9

MOBO: Gigabyte Z68 (U need more?)

PSU: 1000W CM Silent Pro

CASE: Cooler Master HAF X

OS: Win7 (Samsung 840 PRO)

Temperatures:

Motherboard temp:

Idle (lowest): 26 Celsius

Load (highest): 50 Celsius

CPU cores temp:

Idle (lowest): 23 Celsius

Load (highest): 70 Celsius

GPU temp:

Idle (lowest): 31 Celsius

Load (highest): 72 Celsius

Graphics card info: ASUS GTX 580 DirectCU II

Core Voltage (mV): 1063 (1,063)

Core Clock (MHz): 782

Memory Clock (MHz): 2004

Fan Speed: Automatic (i put it up to like 30-35% if my room starts being warm.

Driver: 314.07 (18.02.2013)

Is there anyone who knows how to fix this?

All help will be appreciated, Thank you!

Are you sure your graphic card crashes? Can you get back in the same if your click on the game on the Taskbar?

Usually when the graphic card crashes you have 3 possibilities:

-> The entire screen turns into a color, or steady image or garble image (doesn't change) and stays that way.

-> Your game crashes as your driver crash and Windows has restarted the driver

-> You have a BSOD.

gtx 580 vrm and memory temps?

is there any OC on the GTX 580?

try to raise the voltage on your graphics card slightly 13-25 mV.

try to lower the ram speeds to 1333mhz.

and see if the problem still happens.

@GoodBytes

I'm not sure my GPU crashes, it just feels like it. What do you mean about that?! Getting into the game again you mean? No, that doesn't work :/

My game freezes into a black screen and then i get dragged back into my desktop.

> Screen turns into a black color (BUT it drags me into the desktop)

> The drivers for my GPU doesn't crash. Update: Now it does 24.02.2013 (05:45) Norwegian time

> I haven't had a BSOD in a LONG time (at least not having to do with my gpu)

@mvitkun

All of the temps that i can find is in the post above OR in the screenshot that i uploaded to imgur.

The Direct CU II is slightly OC'd not worth mentioning, it's but i haven't touched anything on the card. (only the fans)

I will try upping the voltage on my GPU now :)

Lowering my RAM speeds doesn't fix anything, it still crashes (i have tested before)

To both of you, thanks for the tip i will try everything in the posts now!

Have you gone into the Windows event logs to look at what happened when it crashed ? that can give some insight and the info could also help some people smarter than me resolve your problem.

not sure if it's like this for everyone,but for me the memory temps are right by the vrm temps in hwinfo.you just scroll down to the very bottom and it's the 2nd to last stack of info.

EDIT:

noticed you said hwmonitor just now not hwinfo,try hwinfo instead it has alot more well...info.

Update:

I tried playing BF3 for a few minutes ago and my graphics card driver crashed mid-game and the driver was restarted by windows :(

Ok it could be a driver conflict issue.

Download the latest Nvidia Drivers, then uninstall the drivers that you have.

Once done, install the newly downloaded drivers, but this time, go under Advance/Custom, and check the box Perform a clean install (or something like that). And also uncheck all the Nvidia stuff you don't use, like for example: Nvidia 3D stuff. You can leave PhysX.

Once the drivers are installed, restart your computer. Now try and see if your problem has been fixed.

@GoodBytes

I do that every time :o

And i don't know if you saw.

You we're right about your previous post.

"-> Your game crashes as your driver crash and Windows has restarted the driver"

That happened to me when i just played BF3

I just noticed you said that you typically have ambient temps (room temp) of 22-25C and yet you only have the fan set to 30-35%.try having the fan at 70%,because even if the gpu isn't overheating some of the components on the pcb might be.

also if you have the most recent drivers try older ones,significantly older ones,like 306.97

http://www.nvidia.com/object/noteboo...ql-driver.html

you could also use this method to make windows wait longer for a response from the graphics card prior to crashing the driver to see if that solves it.

https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...ly-in-firefox/

the post suggests 60,but I'd pick a lower value,maybe something like 10-30.because if there is an actual issue at any point in time it'd be better if it crashes the driver sooner rather than later to prevent damage.

@mvitkun

I have tried to see if my driver have crashed today, i have played like 1 hour+ of BF3 and no crash (just some small freezes after upping the voltage)

I also tried MoH:WF which uses the same engine to see if it would crash, 5 hours and no crash so it seems like it helped a bunch.

Thanks for the help mvitkun, really helpful. I upped the voltage to 1075 which is 0012 more than stock and it seems to work so far, so thank you for that!
