Video editing laptop

Go to solution Solved by quan289,

I live in Europe, I put in $ just so people could understand it better.

You should used the symbol in accordance to your currency, so we know that you aren't using the USD, CAD, AUD, and NZD, currency, which can vastly limit your options.

If you haven't bought the MSI yet, is that 1300 budget in your currency or you converted for us? What part of Europe are you from?

A Clevo option may be a good choice for you, rather than having to deal with shipping overseas. Like one of these if you can buy from here: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/laptop-computers/

Hello!

I am looking for a new laptop that I'll use for video editing and regular usage. I looked around and I found this HP ENVY 15-j059nr to be interesting. I am really no expert in video editing parts, so do you think that this is a good computer for that?

Thanks!

put it in euro, that will make them understand, they know a dollar is worth 1,30 e, and it would make it much more clear for those who live near you

Sorry for the $ symbol thing, the budget in € for me would be at a maximum of 1100€. I am from Portugal

And thanks for the link, I might consider one of those.

P.S.: Has anyone gotten anything from them?

Thanks!

You alternative to the MSI GE60 would be the PCS 15.6" Optimus V and PCS 15.6" Vortex IV LE in your budget range.

The Optimus V is build on the Clevo W350ST barebone, where you can find a review on it by the name of Schenker XMG A523 at NotebookCheck.net.

You should be able to get the i7-4700MQ, GTX 765M, 8GB of RAM, and 750GB~1TB of SSD space. If want, I believe is room for an addition of a Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD or a upgraded screen.

The Vortex IV LE is a little more expensive, that you would be at the top end of your budget and is based off of the Clevo P151SM1 barebone. You should be able to get the same configuration above; however, you won't be able to put in other additions such as the SSD and the upgraded screen I had mentioned. While I have not read reviews on this newer revision, it doesn't seem to change from the older P151EM1 model (I may be mistaken) other than the DVI port that got replace by the display port.

Anyways, it's a better design laptop with more configurable option such as support for a 75w TDP GPU like the 770M. Now you didn't say you were gaming, so that point is probably irrelevant but this also means it yield a better cooling system than the Optimus V thanks to the dual-exhaust fan cooling the CPU and GPU individually. This is a video review of the older P151EM1 by XoticPC if you want to see it.

I think I like this configuration. What do you think about it?

Ah, that's the MSI 1492. It's the barebone for the MSI GE40. If it were me, I would go for a larger screen with a keyboard that has dedicated numpad, but that's more of my own personal preference. It offer you better mobility due to it size and weight, and it offer better speakers than the Clevos; however, the MSI GE40 did have quite a bit of complaints regarding heat, where it gets very hot and throttle down during the more demanding application such as gaming. If you are able to, I would try to invest into the PCS 15.6" Optimus V.

Thanks for the advice but I prefer 14" screens. About the heat, I have one of those fan stands that I used with my old computer and it works quite well.

  • 4 months later...

hi everyone.

i´m quit a bit struggling too to found the right (budget multimedia) laptot for my needs...found this topic while searching a review about the clevo PCS 15.6" Vortex IV LE

it somehow repsond to my needs (money wise) i guess...(music making and video editing...)

my config for it would be :

i7 4200mq

16 gb ram kingston

nvidia gforce gtx 765m

500 gb wd scorpio black 7200 rpm

in the other hand i got to found the gigabyte p25 k-1 that has the same config allready packed in the box for sensibly the same price...

http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00155969.html

now the thing is that i don´t seem to found any concrete review about those two machine and got concernes especially about the heat and noise that they would produce while handeling; found some reviews that were testing the other models from the same series so i got an idea but can´t really decide rationaly...i somehow trust the pc specialist computer better than the gigabyte one, but...

it´s going to be my first laptop and would like it to last not like my desktop one off course but resonably long for the invest...

if someone has anything to comment or advice to give i would really appreciate!

thx`
