850 evo vs 950 pro

So my friend is gonna build a new computer. He is not sure what he should go for for the ssd. The 850 evo and 950 pro are now his two main choices. The 850 pro has been ruled out since compared to the 850 evo there really aren't any advantages that he can use. Does the 950 pro actually have better performance in real world tasks? I know it crushes the 850 evo in synthetic benchmarks but does it really mean anything in the real world (e.g. boot times, file launching, launching games)? I would preferably like to hear from someone who came from a sata ssd and got a 950 pro, but if you just own a 950 pro I would like to hear from you too. If you guys have any information about it as well I would love to know.

950 is m.2/pcie based WAYYY faster overall, but way more expensive, I went with the 850 evo, it's still nice and quick

are you for real? how often do you boot Windows per day? how much time does it take? you do know fastboot is an option and it makes wrecked hard drives boot in 30 seconds

faster file launching - yo wot mate?

 

the 950Pro is a prosumer/Workstation equipment it helps a lot if you have to compile huge Solutions often or if you have some specific aplication that benefits from the random IOs

the sequential performance is useless because there is no place to get so much data from, it's all about IOs

 

so to conlude - no your friend doesn't "NEED" a 950Pro he will be fine with 850Evo, but I actually would take 850Pro for the better durability and reliability

if he thinks he "WANTS" the 950Pro and he has the funds to do so without compromising on GPU and other gaming essential parts, then sure go for it

Just to clarify, the 950 pro has massively way faster speed, but this will never be noticed if the program or file you're opening is smaller than a load of gigabytes. It's for high-throughput operations, and you'll never notice an increase in boot speed because PCIe storage is initialized waaay after SATA drives.
