I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I am looking for advice as to what components in my current rig I should upgrade.

Now full disclosure - this is a pre-assembled rig, not my own build. It was a gift, if I had been buying myself I would have definitely wanted to build one myself, but well a poor man can't be picky. But the PC is one of the models in a gaming series of a reasonably high quality store "Capital", so it isn't the worst pre-assembled rig out there.

The current specs:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 Black Edition

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 950 OC, 2GB GDDR5

RAM: 2 x Kingston DDR3 Kingston HyperX Fury Blue 8GB 1866MHz (upgraded from the single stick of 8gb that the rig came with)

Motherboard: Asus AMD 760G/SB710 SAM3+ MATX/M5A78L-M LX3

HDD: 1TB 7200RPM SATAIII 64MB Western Digital Blue

Power supply: Fortron 460W FSP460-60HCN 120MM SATA*4, IDE*1, PCIe*1 Black

Fans: Two stock fans, one on the back and one on the side of the case, couldn't find any model names.

Case: Aerocool V3X Evil Black Edition Midi-Tower

OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Now I want to slowly save up money and upgrade the rig, piece by piece. I already know that I will be getting an SSD. My question is firstly what else should I upgrade, secondly what should I upgrade to, and thirdly in what order should I upgrade to get the most significant increases in performance every time I upgrade one of the components. And of course I'd like to know if any of those upgrades will also require upgrading the power supply and/or cooling. This rig is of course meant for gaming, and I just want to ensure a nice smooth 1080p gaming experience at maxed settings on any game out now, and that is coming out in the next 1-2 years.

Currently I am still using a shitty old screen that can only run 1280x1024, so at the moment the rig is easily delivering smooth performance on most games, and very rarely dipping below 30 fps on the absolutely most demanding games, but I suspect once I upgrade to the better monitor as I plan to in the very near future and the higher 1920x1080 resolution, the FPS might start dropping a bit more dramatically on the most demanding games, and likely even worse with new games coming out, so I want to prevent that if possible.

Thank you for any advice you can give!

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X

CPU Cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super Windforce OC 3X

Motherboard: MSI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX

RAM: 4x8GB (32GB) Kingston HyperX Fury Black RGB 3200MHz

PSU: BitFenix Whisper M 650W

Case: NZXT H440

SSD: 500GB Samsung 850 EVO (Boot Drive); 1TB Samsung 970 EVO (Primary Game Drive). 1,5TB total SSD storage.

HDD: 3TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM; 4TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM. 7TB total HDD storage.

Upgrade that psu first. Then we can talk about other upgrades.

Upgrade to an i5 build. It's a real bummer you need basically new everything.

I would suggest an 1150 mobo. And a 4690k so you OC once the CPU becomes a bottleneck. You can keep your RAM and video card.

Like everyone else said that PSU has got to go. If you're planning to put some cash into the PC, make sure you protect your investment,.

Once he gets a better PSU he could push that 6300 hard. I have an 8350 that I have pushed to the limits. I don't have an issues with most triple A titles, if he does the same he could see results much like my own. For a budget builder AMD is fine, no need to waste money building an intel build for minor fps improvement at best.

Also following your own posts is a great help! :)

Thanks for the advice so far! Yeah, I hadn't actually realized how bad my PSU is. Completely overlooked it. Currently looking for one on the web, if anyone could make some suggestions as to what would be the best pick on a small budget. I am currently looking through the tier 1 power supplies listed in the PSU ranking page, so far it seems that the Be Quiet Pro 10 is the cheapest option for me to buy nearby, but I don't mind spending a bit extra if there is another PSU that will be better in the long-term.

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X

CPU Cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super Windforce OC 3X

Motherboard: MSI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX

RAM: 4x8GB (32GB) Kingston HyperX Fury Black RGB 3200MHz

PSU: BitFenix Whisper M 650W

SSD: 500GB Samsung 850 EVO (Boot Drive); 1TB Samsung 970 EVO (Primary Game Drive). 1,5TB total SSD storage.
