In my opinion this thread will only make battles between AMD vs Intel fans. Well I think you should get what's best for you taking into account the price and how good it performs. If you want a good CPU that works fine for you in almost everything go for an AMD and if you just want the fastest CPU's go for Intel but they are more expensive.

AMD had a good run back in the Phenom II x4 and Phenom II x6 days but they just can't compete with Intel right now. Although a few of their chips are at price points to compete with Intel, generally i'd say that Intel is still king in the world of gaming and performance measures. On the other hand, I do own an fx-8120. I'm actually more personally attracted to AMD since the first chip I ever bought was one of theirs. I'm really excited to see the next generation of the FX Series- AMD is promising that the performance of the "Steamroller" chip will be much better than the FX-8350, which showed a 20% overall performance improvement over the FX- 8150. It would be really cool to see AMD kick Intel's in the face with the new chip and be that "bad*ss company that makes awesome black edition super overclockable processors" that everyone wants them to be. Also we need AMD in the game to keep Intel on their toes, and to just be a company that makes processors in order to not give Intel a monopoly on the silicon industry, if not for any other reason.

Intel isn't "better" than AMD even if their chips may be better at the current moment. Intel is DIFFERENT... different companies in different places, that's all.

May the Force be with you.

AMD is good for cheap builds. Intel is better for better performing systems.
The 3570k is better then the FX 8350 in gaming, its been proven more cores doesnt mean better performance in single threaded applications, which most games are. On the other hand, the 8350 runs laps around any i5 and some i7's in multi threaded applications due to its core count and thread count,

AMD vs Intel & AMD/ATI vs Nvidia arguments are pointless, you should be comparing products in similar price ranges not entire companies .
exactly... because it's all about leapfrogging... the only thing, AMD has not done any of that in the CPU world for a long time...

Both companies price their parts based on the performance of older chips and each other's chips. AMD isn't pricing their chips below $200 because they care about your wallet, it's because that's how well their chips perform. And Intel's chip costs explode in the i7 2011 line because they start to get to their 'enterprise' level chips, which AMD does not do. With AMD you just go Opteron if you want more cores, and you lose some clock speed. Although, I think you can still OC Opterons, whereas this gen of Xeons is locked for both multiplier and base clock OCing. It also seems very likely that this will change back with haswell.

Intel thinks single threaded performance is still very important, as well as power consumption, and does both of these much better than AMD, but you pay for it, whether or not you value it. As someone who studies computer architecture, the things that Intel did with Sandy Bridge and look like they are going to continue with Haswell performance amaze me.

AMD has an 8 core... Haven't seen an 8 core from Intel. And AMD is much more cheaper. But Intel is good too. Intel has their products, AMD has their products.

AMD actually has a 12 core on there server market side of things but id still rather an E5 xeon or hell intels deca core E7's but theres like no motherboards that id use for the E7's as there purely for the server market.

never seen a 8core intel...Wath about a Intel Xeon Processor E5-2690!!! And all others...Well intel only provides 4core or less proccesors as standard, 6cores for extreme and if you want more you have to go to the business XEON proccesors

you can put the E5-2690 into any LGA2011 board and at most all you will need is a bios/uefi update and hay presto
