I have the razer blackwidow ultimate and don't have any issues, other than the fact they announced the chroma just after I got it and I wish I waited till that version was released.

i dunno.  something about qc? ive got a deathstalker and orbweaver and have never had any problems though

how come ?

Partially because Razer has a reputation for fairly shoddy build quality on their products. They use Kailh switches on their keyboards now, rather than Cherry MX. They aren't tested as much as Cherry's switches are, and have looser tolerances, so different keys on the boards can feel very different, as opposed to Cherry MXs' uniform feel.

I don't have any personal experience with Kailh switches, but the testing that Cherry does is stupidly thorough and.... German. (Like Sennheiser's sometimes obsessive attention to detail)

The 2 biggest mechanical switch makers for keyboards, are Cherry MX & Kaihl. Cherry MX is made in Germany, and they charge a premium. Kaihl use the exact same design as Cherry MX switches, but charge less. And the Razer mechanical switches are made by Kaihl.

It's just fanboys who are willing to pay that premium for Cherry MX, that bitch about any keyboard which has a different switch manufacturer.

Just get a bloody corsair or ducky shine keyboard. Stay away from razer. Logitech is also fine.

They are way overpriced, but if you keep an eye out you can find their keyboards for the same price as a no-name kailh switch keyboard. At which point it's totally worth it.

I have an older non lit Blackwidow that's been working flawlessly since the day I got it. Cherry mx blues.Pulled it apart recently and painted it an awesome white color. It's kind of glossy but doesn't show fingerprints. Went over it with a glossy clear so if it gets scratched the white won't come off. Then I replaced all the keys with blank white keys with green blank wasd and an orange esc key. Kept the black space bar, black backspace and black macro keys to match the black and white of my desktop. Only thing I messed up on was the logo. Didn't mask it correctly. First ever paint job.

Actually cherry switches are higher qualities and more consistent in terms of feel than Kailhuas. Not saying there aren't any good switches other than cherry, there are alps, gateron, topre and more.

They have a slightly stricter quality control, but that is it. The Kaihl switches are exact copies of the Cherry MX designs.

Thoughts on the razor black widow tournament edition ?

I have the Tournament Edition Chroma and its been working fine other than a few typing issues which I have resolved I think. RAZER TOURNAMENT EDITION KEYBOARDS COME WITH CARRYING CASES FOR THE CHROMA AND POUCHES FOR THE NORMAL.

Thoughts on the razor black widow tournament edition ?

tl;dr - Don't buy it.  You can do better.  Get a CMStorm Quickfire TK instead.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't buy it.  Like most Razer peripherals, they have basic "good enough" features found in any comparable product; advertise / market using flashy colored LEDs;  and have questionable build quality.

If you like the tenkeyless design, you'd be better off with something from CMStorm, like the:

>> CMStorm Quickfire Rapid ($75, Amazon).  This is a direct comparison to the Razer Deathadder TE in terms of layout, features, and mechanical switch feel (Cherry MX Brown).

>> CMStorm Quickfire Rapid-i ($100, Amazon).  Same basics as CMStorm Quickfire Rapid, except with configurable and adaptable lighting behavior, in white LED only.  Offers multiple gaming-type switches (Cherry MX Black, Red, Brown);

>> CMStorm Quickfire TK ($105, Amazon).  Tenkeyless layout, with a dual-function navigation / NumPad area.  Offers tactile "typing" keys (Cherry MX Blue, Green), or gaming-type switches (Brown, Red) with different LED colors for each.

Personally, I have a CMStorm Quickfire TK Blue at home for gaming, a CMStorm Quickfire TK Brown for home-office work use, and a CMStorm Quickfire TK Brown at my work desk when I physically go to the office.  You can tell how highly-regarded that keyboard is to me.
