my hard drive makes clicking sound!

s_technogeek

hello!

Recently i have built a new pc and bought a seagate barracuda 2TB harddrive!
From the day 1 of its use, it makes clicking sounds when running!
its been 20 days of its use!

i hear sounds maybe like once in 1.5 - 2 hrs when my pc is running!

what could be the possible reason?
should i replace it?

The clicking sound is comparatively as loud as my mouse clicking sound but its different in terms of what sound it makes!

I think I have the exact same drive and I had the same problem not to long ago and it stopped after a while so I don't know really it might fix itself atleast make a back up

It sounds as if your Hard Drive is spinning down and back up again. Its normal for a HDD to click once when it gets up to speed... If its clicking lots of times then that indicates a problem.

i have also observed one more thing when i open a specific application which is ' Realtemp ' the harddrive instantly makes a 'creeking' sound!

i am also surprised that -

till the time being realtemp is open it makes that same creeking sounds maybe 2-3 times after an interval of time. // i always open realtemp after booting up my pc to keep an eye on the cpu temps

what could be the reason!

it could just be the read head moving around to find parts of files (perhaps your drive is fragmented and a defrag might help?) But if you have checked the SMART and cant see the "Reallocated Sector Count" growing in number then its OK.
