I just wanted someone's opinion on the Ducky Shine 5 if they have it. I might order it for here: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1365     if you're interested.

Personally I've never owned a Ducky product, so I'm trying to get some thoughts from others.

Thank you for your time.

I'm using one right now, with MX Brown. Wonderful keyboard. The RGB is good, I LOVE the software-less nature of it, I love the build quality.. Everything is great. It feels premium, it's extremely weighty.

Ooh, the extra spacebar is cool. It's the Year of the Goat spacebar.

I own a Ducky Shine 3. It's been going strong since replacing my K70 for the best part of two years now, without a single problem. If the 5 is anything like the 3 (which I think it is), then it's an excellent buy.

What happened to your K70??

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Yes, mechanicalkeyboards.com is where I got mine. I'd recommend getting it there, since most/all other places are out of stock.

The only thing I don't like about Ducky is that they use those horrific Cherry stabilizers.  I don't know why anyone would prefer those over Costars (says the person currently typing on a Ducky Shine Legend :P)

Ducky Shine 5 with brown switches. Build quality is good, switches are just like all the other brown switches, leds are bright and are customized directly on the board which allows you to save macros and other settings directly without reliance on software. Would buy it again without hesitation.

Luke said that Ducky's quality control has taken a nose dive recently and he doesn't recommend the shine 5. I'm currently using the shine 3 and it's the best keyboard I've ever used. if RGB doesn't matter that much to you, I would just get a shine 3. If you need RGB, look at Corsair's options

Another point to remember is that Corsair does not have a standard bottom row so if you want to change out your key caps it can be difficult to impossible to find a set that will work. This was enough to get me to start looking at other boards when I was shopping. My requirements were RGB and a US key layout. I went with ducky after trying both it and the corsair boards.

I have also heard that some of the quality has dropped but I haven't seen any issues personally. When I talked to the keyboard shop owner about (the shop I purchased from only sells mechanical keyboards and the owner has a passion for them) it he mentioned that the complaints he has seen is from the USB connector on the board itself having issues over time if you plug and unplug the cable a lot.

Issues with QC on mechanical keyboards are not new. DAS has also had issues with QC after moving their operations for example. Corsair has had issues with failing LEDs in the recent past too. Sadly, nothing has the perfect quality we all want.

Yep, the only reason I switched from a Shine 3 to a Max Nighthawk X9, Costar stabilizers.

That said, I still recommend Ducky as the general go-to for best of quality.

Make sure you get the firmware updates for the Ducky Shine 5 and Year of the Goat (YOTG) otherwise you will have the Reactive Mode Advanced color cycling freeze bug and the FN+Spacebar (select color +press space=stuck repeating space) input bug.  No one has uploaded the ISO version of the YOTG firmware, however.

Interesting, haven't heard about this before. Where does one find the firmware on the board to know if an update is needed? From there where can updates be found and how do you do an update?

Ducky uploaded Ansi shine 5 and One firmware here.

http://www.duckychannel.net/download/

I have Ansi YOTG and ISO version of the Shine 5 firmware on onedrive.
The ISO thing on the YOTG fw is a ducky typo.  It's Ansi.

Also have Shine 4 firmware which fixes Reactive mode advanced color cycling (this is the same bug that is also fixed in the shine 5.  All original Shine 5 and YOTG firmwares have that bug as it originated in the Shine 4 code).  Ducky hasn't posted the 1.12 shine 4 firmware anywhere.

No one has the ISO YOTG firmware.
