What videocard to use?

Go to solution Solved by iamdarkyoshi,

the hd 6450 would be best

Get an HD 6450. However you could use the GT630 instead because like you said you want to save it for an HTPC. If you were to build an HTPC then you could consider pairing your HD6450 with and AMD A6-6400K and get more power out of it.

Basically, go for the HD6450 for the meanwhile and then swap it out when you come to build your HTPC

Good Luck :)

Threw the 6450 into it and it works perfect. And it does not use nvidia's special suncore, so cooling it is actually an achievable task

So I need a better videocard for my 3D printer host. When I have complex models in repetier host and zoom in, it gets kinda laggy. Currently has an ati 2400 pro or something. Replacement doesnt need to be great. I have spares of:

Gt630 4gb (kinda wanted to save this for a htpc)

8800gts 512mb (has a redneck cooler, runs at 85 degrees under full load and is loud af, then again, so is the printer...)

HD6450 1GB

One of several brand new 8400gs

Which one would be the best choice for this? I dont need it to be fantastic, just "better"

I am leaning towards the HD6450

Really? The 2400 pro is almost enough. And I can apparently get r9 270x cards for less :)

All in on GTX 480, OC it and enjoy power grid totalling space heating.

Maybe I should use it to heat the chamber of the printer. The current heater (a 200w 12v resistive heater) can get it to like 40 degrees after half an hour
