just go for intel or wait for zen but depends i regret my fx 8350 choose

I think a cheap cooler like 212 Evo should manage around 4.7 if you are lucky also not sure how much you can OC on that board... :S

 

BTW: It works awesome in DX12 games no need to swap yet wait for Zen or Zen II if you most! :P

Nah, 4,7 is too much for the 212 Evo. But 4,5 should be possible.

With that board (Crosshair Formula) I'd just buy an expensive cooler and go for 5 ghz, it would boost your performance quite a bit.

My 212 Evo managed 4.7 at good temps but the motherboard got to hot so I was like "screw this..."

That's why you should have bought an ASRock 970 Performance instead of the MSI one, it's the same price bracket and it's better ^^

I would say get the cooler as it can always be carried over to your next build :D

Wait. I also am starting to regret sticking with an FX processor. It does ok-ish, but I feel like for the money I spent I should be getting more performance. Even water cooled my FX can only manage a meager 4.6Ghz stable, requiring 1.525V to do it.

I have a 8320 @ 4.8 with a cryorig H7. 

 

I would just make sure whatever cooler you get will be compatible with the intel board you will likely go with in the future. Therefor, you save yourself from buying a cooler twice. 

 

Temperatures don't exceed 60c

Pretty much anything on Intel's side is a better idea, but with an 8350 might as well wait and see what Kabylake/Zen bring.

 

That said, you already have an 8350 and many good-quality air coolers and liquid coolers will come with mounting hardware for both Intel and AMD.

I recommend you ditch the stock cooler for the 8350 and get a Noctua air cooler.

I think a cheap cooler like 212 Evo should manage around 4.7 if you are lucky also not sure how much you can OC on that board... :S

 

BTW: It works awesome in DX12 games no need to swap yet wait for Zen or Zen II if you most! :P

I have a Msi 970 board and I couldn't be happier with it. 

It's a decent board. Not a good one though. Not for overclocking. 970 Performance has 8+2 power phase VRMs vs 6+2 that the 970 Gaming has, has M.2 slot and costs the same (usually), why would you get it? :P

Yeah, a 212 EVO would be ok.

 

I'd still invest in a Noctua though just because their mounting hardware and support is top-titty.

Hello!

I am wondering if it would be worth buying a good after market cool for the AMD FX 8350 and OC it, or should i just wait a few months to upgrade to an intel?

 

I am looking for anyone's thoughts so dont be shy!

 

I used a phanteks PH-TC14PE to get to 4.8 but it got very warm, my friend has the Noctua NH-D14 and it cools his 6300 very well. You should always overclock an FX chip, if you don't then you're very silly and even though I'm not mad at you, I'm just disappointed. lol ok that was a joke but seriously the FX range begged to be overclocked.
