I grow tired of having a pure white case, I feel it is time for a new look to my computer. But I want it to be unique and the idea I have for it is quite... extreme.

Before I go ahead, let me just preface this by saying I have a Define R4, so if anything would survive this, mine would be the case to survive it.

The idea is to take of/out all of the rubber grommits, the front panel shield, the feet, everything else that isn't made of metal, and torch the metal chassis of the case in a bonfire, burning off the paint and giving the case a nice heated metal look. Theoretically, at least.

So, my friends... Please tell me how bad an idea this is? My main worry, of course, is that parts of the case will bow and warp with the heat, making it unusable. That would be a terrible waste of a Define R4, so I want to know if I should even think about trying this out.

Whaddaya think?

Sounds like something that should go on "America's Funniest Home Videos" or something similar.

I think it would work fine if you did it piece by piece and supported each piece, and not let it heat up, get malleable, then let it bend. Excuse me if I spelled that wrong.

But I think as long as you support the piece you're torching some how. Then I think it would stay fine.

-SNIP-

I wouldn't recommend it cause it will warp the case if it's heated unevenly not to mention the soot. If you were to break it down and get rid of the paint then heat treat/temper by bluing you can get very unique coloring from the metal itself, but that usually require an industrial oven to do that.

Honestly, I'd go to some serious case modding forums to ask about doing something like this.
